Today, December 24th, we warmly welcome our community to La Mexicana Grocery to receive free groceries, generously donated by an anonymous individual and La Mexicana, in loving memory of the Velasquez family—Maria and Cipriano Velasquez, who came from Mexico in the early 1920s. Maria was known for her boundless kindness and her open heart, always feeding anyone who came to her home in Marion, never letting a soul leave hungry. She also shared her gift of cooking through many years of service at Saint Paul as a cook. This gesture is made to honor their legacy of faith, generosity, and community, and to share the same spirit of love and care they gave so freely to others.
