Getting word out, to all of our vendors and community members who planned to attend the meeting tonight, the County Farmers Market Board meeting has been canceled. Sorry for the last minute response but we did not receive word from Cheryl Walker until 1:21 today. They are to reschedule for later this month. We will keep you posted.

Subject: Please Join Us September 8 — Your Voice Can Make the Difference

We're asking you, directly and personally, to join us at the second meeting of the County Farmers Market Board.

Tuesday, September 8 at 6:00 p.m.
Big Courtroom, Union County Courthouse

As you know, the Commission voted unanimously in May to explore creating its own farmers market board and possibly taking over the market and Heritage Culinary Center after this season, without anyone claiming the market had done anything wrong. This meeting is another chance for commissioners to hear directly from the people who actually make this market work: you.

It lays out, in one place, everything this community has built together over the past 16 years: from a $300 seed grant and a folding table to a licensed commercial kitchen now helping a dozen food entrepreneurs build real businesses, a Teaching Kitchen training Union County students for real culinary careers, and over $2 million in grants that our own Board found, wrote, and won. Please take a few minutes to read it before the 8th. It's worth knowing, and it may help if you decide to speak.

Your presence matters more than you might think. Commissioners notice a packed room. They notice even more when people stand up and speak. If you're willing to give a public comment, even a short one, about what the market or the kitchen has meant to you or your business, please let us know and we'll help get you on the list to speak. If public speaking isn't for you, simply being there still sends a powerful message, one a room full of empty chairs cannot. Be sure to bring friends and family. Let's make the voice of the community heard.

We don't want to lose 16 years of serving our vendors and this community. So many people, volunteers, farmers, vendors, board members, and neighbors, have poured their time into growing this market into what it is today. That vote in May was unanimous, but there are new commissioners now who haven't yet had the chance to see what we do or hear directly from the people we serve. We believe that once they understand how much this market and kitchen mean to Union County, they can be persuaded to stand with us. It's also worth remembering: we are an all-volunteer board, and we have never taken a dollar of county money to run this market.

Please wear your Farmers Market T-shirt, or a red shirt if you don't have one, so every commissioner in that room can see exactly how many of us there are.

We were so humbled with all that showed for the first meeting. Thank you for everything you do for this market and this community.

Happy upcoming Labor Day Weekend!
Before you begin your festivities, join us at the Union County Farmers Market - come load up on fresh produce, find something handmade, grab something delicious to eat - we have hot dogs and lemonade, delicious baked goodies samples at the demo table, and scrumptious cookies, cheesecakes, and other goodies, and spend the morning with neighbors and friends at the market - where our community meets!

We will have:
🎤 Live music by singer Virginia Faith,
🌭 Food by J&J Street Foods, and Jackson’s Lemonade,
🧁 Baking demos by Hannah of Magnolia Mountain,
🍯 And local eggs, meat, produce, honey, and breads!
🥮 Enjoy scratch-made cookies, cheesecakes, and other goodies!
🛍️ Support local with our wonderful farmers, makers, bakers, crafters, and artisans!

So far we will have the following vendors:
Cottage Kitchen, Brantley Farms, Smudnarts, B&G Crafts, J&P Crafts, Keep it Sweet by Kenlie, Rock Paper Sky, Zee Farms, Granny’s Square, Rustic Cheesecakes (until noon), Nana’s Farm Products, Rebel Farms 2, Thompson Farm, Walnut Hill Farm, Seven Springs Farm to Table, Keck Berries, and Magnolia Mountain (baking mixes, set up with the food demo)
