Determined to keep his family of six on the family farm in Kansas after a farming accident, Homer Krehbiel opened a small country store in January 1978. Homer felt that if he could offer people a quality product that was fresh, natural and home grown people would buy it. The store started with just a few customers and only offered raw milk, frozen g
round beef, cheese and raw honey. The store offered quality items at a reasonable price and soon the list of customers started growing. As interest in all natural processing took off, the business expanded to include a complete natural food line and a fresh meat market and smokehouse. Krehbiels Natural Meats began to develop recipes and products that were natural, produced the old fashioned way, with exceptional flavor, taste, and quality. To the Krehbiel family, all natural meant, adding nothing more than what nature put there in the first place. Significant renovations and expansions took place in 1983 and in 2004, allowing for more growth and efficiency but continuing with the integrity of this family owned and operated business. In 2011 there was a change in leadership, when Homer’s oldest son Jeff took over the running of the processing part of the operation while Homer concentrated on the large meat market & deli. Jeff, having the upbringing he had, has continued on the legacy his father had started by producing the same quality meats and also developing new recipes to appeal to a whole new generation of meat consumers. In August of 2012 Homer will retire from the business for good. The large meat market & deli will be downsized and relocated once again to the family farm where the old fashioned quality meats will still be available.
