We had a beautiful weekend surrounded by extended family and relatives of Seed Keepers, Corn Growers and Stewarts of our Rotinonshónni food ways. Grateful for the invitation to be apart of the Braiding the Sacred Gathering hosted by The Tonawanda Council of Cheifs, Tonawanda Ag Society and Braiding the Sacred. Every year we have been planting our Rotinonshónni seeds not only as a food source but as an offering to the land , in honor of our Ancestors that still walk the fields in this valley, an acknowledgement of their presence and sacrifice that was made 100s of years ago when our people were the main care takers of this valley.
We brought back rematriated ancestral Mohawk beans and one of our original Rotinonshónni Strawberry Popcorn seeds that will be planted in the coming weeks as not only a reclamation of our spirits but as a reminder to all that we are still here, Iohskóhare (Schoharie Valley) is still alive and thriving. We have not forgotten our ways 🌱
