Ok guys, it’s been a crazy/scary few days but let me start by saying:
I’m home and I’m fine (now). For a short time, neither of those were the case. Here’s what happened.
**Wednesday morning we head to the ER. I suspect my appendix burst but after 10 hrs in the hospital I’m sent home w info on passing a kidney stone, pain meds and a urine strainer (to catch the stone). Everything was going fine until
**Thursday evening when I started throwing up. It continued thru the night and the next day but it was tolerable (about as much fun as that stone moving)…….until sometime
**Friday. I’m not sure exactly. I noticed that I stopped peeing even tho I was still drinking a ton of liquids and my stomach was swelled. Also, the throwing up picked up speed.
**Saturday. It was around 3am when James woke up bcuz he heard me throwing up. Constantly. He decided about 30 minutes after listening to that , we were heading back to the ER. When I say I puked the ENTIRE 1 hr trip to Petoskey I am not exaggerating. There wasnt even stomach bile, it was a stinky FOAM. I was out of it at this point. Barely able to walk, dizzy, weak…..
We showed up to the hospital and things happened…..FAST. Usually you have to wait in the ER. Nope, not me, not this time. I was immediately taken back and vitals checked. Heart rate 40
Blood pressure 217/140
Uncontrollably Shaking so hard it actually hurt my body. Drs, nurses, running in and out. I don’t remember this part. This is info my amazing husband had a front row seat to watch. He said it was insane how many different vials of stuff they were putting in and taking out of that IV. To give you an idea, the garbage can (those 4 ft tall ones) was empty when we got there and FULL by the time we went up to our room (15 hrs after being admitted). We (ok maybe just me) didn’t realize what was going on quit yet. After about 4 diff meds to stop the puking, we get it to FINALLY subside. Over 24 hrs of constant throwing up at this point. Talk about a relief. Once I was stable the Dr comes in and tells us “the kidney stone is stuck. It’s blocking the path for urine. Your stone had turned septic and we need to do surgery as soon as possible.” We were told we were being admitted and surgery was sch for 8am on
**Sunday. Surgery went well, they blasted the stone and put in a stent to help the other stones move without this happening again.
At this point I’m feeling well enough to absorb and research what I had.
A septic kidney stone. If you Google that (go ahead. Do it now) it states that it is (and I quote) “a medical emergency.”
Luckily, after blood cultures the infection hadn’t made it to my blood (thx to James for making me go back in during the night and not letting me wait until morning). But if I would’ve waited a few more hours……we (I) may not be here right now.
The medical staff at McLaren Petoskey were amazing.
So we are home now, taking it super easy. Unfortunately this means we will not be at market again this week. I apologize but I need to spend this week taking care of myself and drinking as much water as I can tolerate.
Moral of this story:
Thank your husband
Hug your daughter
Kiss your son
Appreciate your medical staff
Bcuz at ANY point, you could loose them. We were close. I’m still shocked to say I almost frickin died.
I have the most amazing family. James sat and slept in a small ass chair for 32 hrs-almost straight. My amazing kids cleaned the house, washed bedding, cut grass, and surprised me w the BEST surprise: my favorite flowers (lilacs) picked and vases put all over the house. Now every room I walk into smells of Lilacs! Thank you everyone who called or texted to check up on me. I appreciate you all.
Thanks for reading my long story.
Alayna Taylor Collin Taylor and of course, my love James!! Thank YOU! Thank you for what u did and continue to do for me daily (they even managed to lay the fabric in the garden when we got back last night-now I can PLANT). I love and appreciate you! 😘😘
