Our little town has had some free-roaming Angus cows recently…

The humor from my neighbors as they posted ‘spotted’ updates was priceless!

I wish all Americans were able to experience small town life.

These cows were someone’s future steaks and burgers on the moo-ve!

One bull cow was caught because he was checking out a few dairy cow ladies. 😉🐄

No cows on the loose here, but I do have some delightful feathered troublemakers who lay incredible eggs.

Chicken & duck eggs for sale. Corn & soy free, organic & non-GMO feed. Pasture-raised. Hand gathered daily.

$6 for 6 duck eggs.
$6 for a dozen chicken eggs.
If you’d like a few dozen we can talk delivery.

Arbela Township.

Princess Peach picture for attention.

One of the girlies popped an egg out while on their perch last night. They love raw eggs! I was able to put it where Princess Peach could get it. 🎉🥳🍳

Hello friends of Big Goose Homestead!
🇺🇸🐓🌿

We’ve got an egg-stra special announcement today—our first chicken egg!🥚It is small and light brown, and we’re so egg-cited to share this milestone with you. We think it might be from Dora, but the tan color has us guessing. Here’s a fun comparison photo to show the difference in size between our first chicken egg and a duck egg.

Did you know that when hens start laying their first eggs, the eggs are usually smaller and might be a bit quirky? These first eggs are often called “pullet eggs” and are a sign that our girls are growing up. Here are some fun facts about chickens laying their first eggs:

1. Practice Makes Perfect: The first few eggs might be smaller and not perfectly shaped. It’s all part of the learning process for the hens.
2. Egg Color Surprise: The egg color can sometimes be a surprise! Even breeds known for specific colors might have a few surprises in store.
3. Early Birds: Hens can start laying eggs as early as 16 weeks old, but it’s common to see them start around 18-24 weeks.
4. Corn and Soy-Free Diet: Our hens are fed a corn and soy-free diet, keeping them healthy and their eggs delicious!

Our flock is full of personalities. Here’s a bit about our girls:

Americanas:
-Dora (aka Fat Dora): She looked so fluffy we called her fat! We think one of the first eggs might be hers.
-Amelia Egghart: First in flight and always leading the charge.
-Princess Peach: Gets the zoomies and races around like she’s in the Chicken Olympics.

Rhode Island Blues:
-Athena and Luna: Love blueberries and come running when they hear Ryan’s voice.
-Jett (the rooster): Still figuring out “His Girls” but charming as ever.

Amberlinks:
-Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather: The friendliest trio, known for their prolific egg-laying and social nature.

Who will be our star layer like Gerri (or Jerry) the resilient duck? Stay tuned to find out! We’re thrilled to share this journey with you and look forward to many more eggs and adventures.
