Happy Saturday, friends. Its another long, but real post. I had to run to Publix last night to grab salad stuff because even though we have a lot in store, I was missing a couple things for our families dinner. I was looking in people's carts and I am amazed at what people are buying. The person in front of me spent over $300 on convenience foods. It was back to school shopping for weeknight dinners and kids lunches... (it was more expensive than if they had come into the store and gotten enough meat to cook real food for a week....) I thought to myself this...
WE HAVE NORMALIZED EATING THINGS THAT AREN’T EVEN REALLY FOOD.
Read that again.
Somewhere along the way, convenience became more important than nourishment.
We started calling something “breakfast” because it came in a colorful box.
We started calling something “lunch” because it could be heated in the plastic container, in a microwave in 90 seconds.
We started calling something “snacks” because a factory figured out how to make flour, sugar, oils, additives, flavorings, and preservatives taste irresistible.
And somehow…
REAL FOOD became the inconvenient option. 🤔
But here's the thing:
Your body doesn't know that the package says healthy.
Your gut doesn't care that the box says whole grain.
Your body doesn't care that the marketing says natural.
It knows what you actually put into it.
And there is a MASSIVE difference between eating something that was grown, raised, harvested, cooked and prepared……and eating something that was formulated and contains ingredient lists a mile long, with words you cant pronounce- much less know what they are.
We have gotten so far removed from our food that many people don't even know what questions to ask anymore. 🤯
So let's start asking.
❓️Where did your meat come from?
❓️What did that animal eat?
❓️How was it raised?
Because here's something that doesn't get talked about nearly enough:
WHAT YOU FEED THE ANIMAL MATTERS.
At McFadyen Manor Homestead, our animals are fed a corn-free, soy-free diet.
Because we believe that if we're going to raise food for YOUR family, we have a responsibility to be intentional about what goes into OUR animals.
We don't want to raise an animal on the cheapest possible inputs and then hand you the finished product and tell you it's “just meat.”
It isn't just meat.
It's the culmination of everything that animal ate (both grain and forage), how it lived, how it was cared for and how it was raised.
And while we're certainly not going to tell you that one food magically fixes everything, we absolutely believe that the quality and sourcing of the food you eat matters. A LOT.
This is why small farms matter.
Not because we're trendy.
Not because “farm-to-table” sounds cute.
And certainly not because we're trying to compete with a corporation that can produce food at massive scale.
We're trying to bring you back to something we should have never lost.
A relationship with your food.
A relationship with the person who raised it.
A relationship with the land.
A relationship with your kitchen.
A relationship with what you're putting into your family's bodies.
Because maybe the answer isn't another supplement.
Maybe it's not another “health food.”
Maybe it's not another product with 47 ingredients on the label promising to make you healthier.
Maybe we just need to start eating FOOD again.
Real eggs. 🥚
Real milk. 🥛
Real meat. 🥩
Real vegetables. 🥕
Real fruit. 🍎
Real ingredients. 🧈
Food that looks like the thing it came from.
And here's where YOU come in.
You don't have to buy everything from a small farm.
You don't have to make everything from scratch.
‼️You don't have to be perfect.
But you can start asking questions
You can learn where your food comes from.
You can buy one thing locally.
Then two.
You can replace one ultra-processed item with something real.
You can visit a farm.
You can talk to a farmer.
You can teach your kids that milk doesn't magically appear in a plastic jug and meat doesn't originate in a styrofoam package.
You can vote with your grocery dollars.
Because every time you buy from a small farmer, you're not just buying food.
You're supporting a family.
You're supporting land that is being cared for.
You're supporting someone who is willing to get up before daylight, work in the heat, deal with animals, weather, rising feed costs, equipment breakdowns and all the things that come with producing food…
So that you can put something better on your family's table.
And THAT is why we do what we do.
We aren't trying to sell you a prettier version of the grocery store.
We're trying to give you an alternative.
Real food.
Raised intentionally.
By people who care.
For people who care.
So the next time you're standing in the grocery store staring at a package…
Don't just ask:
Is this cheap?”
Ask:
"WHAT ACTUALLY IS THIS?”
And then ask yourself…
Is this what I want feeding my family?
Because convenience is great.
But your health, your family, and the food you put into their bodies are worth being a little less convenient for.
Go find your farmer. ❤️
And if you're local, we'd love to be yours.
You now have 7 days, 7 chances and 7 choices to shop with us! Todays hours are 9am to 6pm and we can't wait to see you there!
