Saturday was one of those market days that reminded us of EXACTLY why this event started. The booths were beautiful, the talent was overflowing, the conversations were meaningful, and the support from this community was something truly special. ๐Ÿฅน

Lakeside Local was created to be more than just a market. Our mission has always been to build a vibrant, welcoming, go-to-gathering place at Smith Mountain Lake where we celebrate small businesses and connect with our community. We are committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment where local entrepreneurs can grow and thrive. ๐Ÿ’ช

As an organization, we are dedicated to driving commerce within our community as well, creating a ripple effect of economic growth throughout the area. Weโ€™d say our mission was glowing this weekend as the messages from our vendors rolled in celebrating a big day in their businesses. โœจ

Every vendor, every shopper, every shared post, every kind word, every โ€œIโ€™ll be back next monthโ€ moment helps us keep building something that feels joyful, intentional, and rooted in community. ๐Ÿชพ

To our market family: thank you for showing up with your creativity, your passion, and your small business hearts on full display. ๐Ÿ’–

To our market guests: thank you for choosing local, cheering on small businesses, and making this market feel alive in the best way. โšก๏ธ

To our Presenting Sponsor, Anchor Title SML & Headliner, Chrissie M. McNeil, Realtor-First Choice Real Estate, LLCโ€” thank you for believing in this market!

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for making Lakeside Local such a staple to the perfect weekend at Smith Mountain Lake. This summer is going to be BIG! ๐Ÿ˜

Together, we grow local. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿชด

Y'all meet Emily McCahill, owner and designer of Bay & Branch Plant Design. She's a Supporting Sponsor of our May Market tomorrow!

Emily started Bay & Branch in 2016 to bring unique, artistic plant arrangements to the community. Much of the inspiration for her designs come from days on the beach or hikes in the mountains with her family. HAPPY 10 YEARS IN BUSINESS!

Her favorite thing is combining interesting plant material with creative containers to create one-of-a-kind plant arrangements. Offering succulents, air plants, house plants and more, Bay & Branch creations make great gifts and accents for any home, business or event.

We can't wait for you to meet her and see her beautiful plant designs that are a true work of art!

Listen... local honey is a staple around here and we LOVE Happy Bees Apiary! It just so happens they are a Supporting Sponsor for this weekend's market!

John & Chris Hibbs recently relocated to Smith Mountain Lake from New Jersey and brought their hives with them that they've been growing since 2010.

They now have three apiaries in Virginia (two on Smith Mountain Lake, and one in Franklin County at Brooks Mill Winery), all ready to provide you with delicious, golden, local honey. They manage all of their bees and harvest all the honey themselves. It's minimally processed, all natural and raw, and brought to you as the bees intended!

To keep the bees happy, once they find the perfect location for their hives, that becomes their home. The bees stay put. John & Chris do all the work traveling back and forth to them.

The three types of honey that Happy Bees produces are:

1. Honey that is pure, raw, local, and delicious. Minimally processed, and never heat treated.

2. Creamed honey, or honey butter, is pure honey deliciousness, with nothing added. Made from the Smith Mountain Lake and Pinelands Blend honeys. The creaming process is controlled by slow, gentle refrigeration. Once 'creamed', the honey is shelf stable and requires no refrigeration at home. Use this delectable spread on biscuits, toast, waffles, pancakes, or muffins. Also great paired with cheeses or fruit. The possibilities are endless!

3. Buckwheat Honey โ€ข Made predominantly from the flowers of the buckwheat plant grown for them at the Atsion Lake, NJ farm. This dark, robust honey is a favored Varietal, always raw and natural. Excellent for cooking and baking, it's also known for soothing sore throats and coughs.

Samples are free at market so be sure to stop by and see what the Happy Bees have for you! They'll be popped up on the lawn at JBohnBishop Mercantile! ๐Ÿ

Meet one of our Supporting Sponsors for this weekend's market!

Anchor Meadow Farm, a first generation Veteran owned farm, based right here in Moneta!

In 2017, with little farming knowledge but a deep passion for stewardship and wholesome food, Emely, her husband, Matt, and daughter, Annika, embarked on a journey to build something meaningful. After Matt retired from the U.S. Navy in 2016, the family started from scratch, determined to cultivate the land responsibly and raise food they were proud to share.

Eight years later, they relocated to Smith Mountain Lake, where, as first-generation farmers, they continue to grow, offering pasture-raised Kunekune pork, showing dedication to producing healthy and sustainable food for our community.

At Anchor Meadow Farm, the Hendls pride themselves on the quality and freshness of their farm products. They offer a wide range of farrow to finish Kunekune pork products utilizing organic practices and the utmost ethical and humane treatment of their entire herd.

Stop by to meet Emely who will be popped up on the lawn at Aloha Art Experiences on Saturday from 10-1pm. Experience the superior flavor of pasture-raised pork and shop their best-selling apothecary essentials!

One of our fav products... the Render & Restore Body Butter. You'll thank us later! ;-)

The hosts of Lakeside Local, JBohnBishop Mercantile, Aloha Art Experiences and LAT Wellness Studio have TWENTY-THREE unique businesses to showcase this weekend PLUS our Nonprofit of the Month, the Smith Mountain Lake Association!

What's even cooler is that our directory of vendors is so wide that this weekend's market will feature EIGHT businesses that weren't with us in April. So, if you missed out OR even if you were there last month, this weekend and every month's market will look a bit different... and we LOVE that!

From specialty food, to beauty and wellness, boutique retail, items from the farm and handmade/artisan goods, Lakeside Local is where you want to be every third Saturday from 10am-1pm!

Another unique feature to the May Market is our FREE creative activity for all ages provided by Aloha Art Experiences. Outside of their studio you'll find giant cardboard flowers planted throughout the lawn, ready to be transformed with color and imagination. Stop by, grab a brush, and help paint the flowers into a beautiful community art display. Paint, plates and brushes are provided.

To go with our visual market map, we've included a May Market Directory to easily shop by category or location of that business.

We want to give a special thank you to six of our very own market family members for their support of this month's event! You'll see our new SUPPORTING SPONSOR signs at each of these businesses booths this weekend, so keep your eyes peeled and be sure to stop by and show them some extra love!
