Well, as many have heard, we will not have any of our own tree fruit to share with our loyal customers this year. 😤 But we will have plenty of garden fruits and veggies! We made it past the (hopefully) last cold night, and have approximately 70,000 seedling plants in the field as well as acres of seed crops coming up.

A quick report on the vegetable planting situation... The UVWUA had a major leak that needed repair and so the irrigation water was turned off about a week or so ago. We have thousands of various veggie starts waiting to go in the ground BUT consider this a blessing because had the water been on they would have been planted! Right now they are still cozy in the shop!

Well the sun has come out, but we are still looking at another hard freeze. Another method we use for frost protection is spraying the trees with a compound mineral supplement (Calcium/Boron/Manganese). It is still in trial testing but has seemed to help (maybe) in past years. Are this point we are using ALL of the tools in the chest to try to get through the frigid temperatures! Praying this is the last cold snap and we will still have enough fruit to share the summer harvest.🙏

The next few nights will be telling for the summers peach harvest. We thought we would give you a glimpse into what it looks like in the orchards during the coldest spring nights.
Will Woody (freelance writer, Colorado Sun) came out a few years ago and shadowed Kerry as he worked through the night to save the summer harvest. His article is linked to this post. We appreciate Will's tenacity in reporting this account.
Here are just a few statistics we have gathered-
• 5 acres of peaches
• 60-70 barrels per acre
• Barrels are lit every night the temp dips below 28-31 degrees (depending on the stage of bloom)
• Seven cords of wood (approx.2500 lbs) per night

The farm is waking up! 🌸🌱

It’s that time of year again — muddy boots, fresh air, and a whole new season getting underway. After a long winter’s rest, things are finally stirring again out here. The fruit trees are beginning to bloom, the soil is being turned, and the quiet fields are coming back to life one row at a time.

There’s something special about this season — fresh starts, new growth, and the promise of what’s to come. We’ve been busy behind the scenes and we’re excited to be back and can’t wait to share it all with you as things start growing again.

Stay tuned… 🌱
