A HUGE shout out to Big Rock Elementary School and Chesaning Union Schools today.
My kiddo has LOVED the past few years and she’s had awesome teachers, admin, secretaries, lunch workers, bus drivers, latchkey, so many more. What a great team and a great community that supports the district by always passing milleages, bonds, huge support of parent fundraisers, and so much more.
As a teacher in a nearby district I’m envious of this type of support that this community always gives.
Chesaning does in fact, ROCK, and my happy kiddo is a result of that. On to 4th grade next year after her last day tomorrow.
Mapes says, ‘I had a great time and had a great last five years at BR’

The chive blossoms are abundant right now and are the perfect addition to white wine (or champagne) vinegar. You’ll get a slight onion/allium flavor to add to all sorts of dishes and salad dressings.
You can be super fancy without breaking the bank 😎

The constant rubber band bracelet is one of them…

Our first-ever batch of kimchi is now beginning fermentation.
This is NOT for sale, sorry.
We are just highlighting our Napa cabbage and a great long-term use for it. Fermented foods are great for your gut and are super healthy.
FYI: Napa is super easy to grow and matures quickly and is great for a home garden.
We never spray pesticides so ours is pretty safe too. 😛

We are starting the process of fermentation for kimchi with our pesticide-free Napa cabbage today.
Currently sitting with kosher salt for a few hours after a quick massage. More updates later.
We are OPEN Sunday 5/31 12-6pm with Napa, Bok Choy, radish, eggs, herbs, and more.

A LOT going on lately on the mind and a lot overstimulated at school with the other job.
Home is relaxation and trying to stay caught up. School’s out for summer and we can now focus on growing.
Girl tired the moon holding trick and the peonies are starting to smell like heaven on earth.
Lots to do this week and thousands of plants to….well….plant.

Pro-tip: buying Bonnie plants is a terrible value. The soil is mostly synthetic crud, hit or miss care, and hugely over-priced! Please! Head to a local greenhouse to buy better and less expensive (and higher-quality) plants.
We've recently seen some of these plants as high as $5.98 for a single pepper plant! Yikes!
Support your LOCAL growers and keep money in the community.
(Sorry, we do not sell vegetable or flower starts but there are plenty in our area that do).

An incredible find tonight by my partner, D'Haene. She was weeding onions in plot 1 while I was working in the propagation house. We met in the workshop at about the same time and she had this in her hand when she turned the corner to me. It was an emotional response; she was holding something that hadn’t been touched by another human in hundreds or thousands of years, she was holding history of the native people who lived here long before us and who were stewards of this land much longer than our short history in this area.
This means so much to have been found here where we acknowledge the native people who came before us.
Before we ever installed our first greenhouse we were required to have the state of Michigan archaeologist come out to dig for evidence and they ‘only’ found bits of chert in 2019. There is much native peoples documentation within a few hundred feet of ‘our’ property and much much more a few miles to the north in the national wildlife refuge.
We are only temporary stewards and are honored to have this piece that should always remain with this piece of land.

We put a LOT of effort into our FarmBoxes, whether they’re monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly. Planning enough for each customer is no small feat.
We follow the pay ahead model like many small farms because it helps cover early season startup costs (and then customers don’t have to pay during the season).
It doesn’t work for everyone, but we’ve been LUCKY to have many great customers stick with us for YEARS now because they have seen the value we give them…and we hope we’ve continued to improve.
That said, we have ONE opening that was never paid for but promised and has gone to feed chickens instead.
Would you or someone you know like to join and get produce that changes throughout the growing season?
Now that we’re entering our fourth week we can reduce our price for the opening so please don’t buy on our website until you message, call, or text Josh at 517.643.2875
Thanks for your support in all we are trying to do. 🙌
