The Moorefield fresh facility is located on Main Street, in the heart of Moorefield, West Virginia, with the live operation facilities located in the Industrial Park off Route 220 South. The first poultry plant, Rockingham Poultry Marketing Cooperative, was opened in 1944, with 79 employees processing 3,000 birds. In 1988, Rockingham Poultry, Inc. merged with Wampler-Longacre, Inc., to become WLR Foods, Inc. In 2001, the 1,500 employees at the complex joined Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation and in 2009, Moorefield joined the JBS USA family. The fresh plant currently processes approximately 450,000 birds per day in two processing shifts and one sanitation shift. Products produced are whole birds (marinated and non-marinated), fast food cuts (marinated and non-marinated), boneless breast, parts and giblets. Major customers include KFC, Boston Market, Sysco, Popeyes, Safeway, Wal-Mart, Denny’s, Food Lion and more.
Moorefield hosts the annual WV Poultry Festival and Convention in July and the annual Heritage Weekend event in September.
