Thought I'd share why I've been away. Preserving and canning season is in full swing! I've taken a brief break from here for the past couple of weeks, after being so busy canning/preserving in July. I got a whole bushel of peaches (bushel=120 peaches) canned and put away, peach jelly, tomatoes, and salsa made and canned. Now I'm back!!! I still have to tackle pears, pickles, cherries, herbs, and probably more. I've been canning and preserving fruits and vegetables for years and love it. A Creative Watermelon Centerpiece

•1 round watermelon
•3 celery stalks (soak in cold water in the refrigerator overnight to stiffen)
•Blackberries (for the "charcoal")
•Assorted fruits for kabobs
•Small cucumber or zucchini
•Wooden skewers
•Toothpicks

Cake Cooling Tip: When cooling cake layers, place bread slices on top to keep the cake layers soft and moist while the bread becomes hard as a rock -it keeps it from cracking in the middle too!

CROCK POT Asian Pork Chops - Recipe would definitely work with chicken/beef. Mix 1/2 cup soy sauce (I used Lite), 1/2 ketchup. 1/2 cup light brown sugar, 2 cloves minced garlic, and black pepper to taste. Put meat in the crock pot (I used 2.5 pounds boneless pork chops because thats what was already thawed). Pour the sauce mixture over the meat, cook on low for about 5 hours, and the meat is tender and moist.

CAFE RIO CHICKEN

2 lbs chicken breasts
1/2 a small bottle of zesty Italian dressing
1/2 Tbsp. minced garlic
1 pkt ranch dressing mix (mixed with 1/2 cup of water)
1/2 Tbsp. chili powder
1/2 Tbsp. ground cumin

Place all ingredients in a crock pot. Cook on High 5-6 hours OR on Low 8 hours.
Shred with fork and serve in salads, burritos, tacos…etc.

You can also double or triple this to make extras for freezing. Then simply thaw and reheat for a fast and delicious meal.
