Another little bit of winter prep done today! 🍯🍋

I made a batch of homemade honey cough drops with just 4 ingredients. They were pretty simple to make and now I’ll have some put back for when they’re needed. ❤️

Who else is starting to get things ready for winter? ❄️

🍯 Homemade Honey Cough Drops
You'll need:
• 1 cup honey
• 2 tablespoons lemon juice
• 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger (or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)
• ½ teaspoon cinnamon

How to make them:
Add everything to a heavy-bottom saucepan.
Heat over medium-low heat, stirring until it starts simmering.
Cook until it reaches 300°F on a candy thermometer.
Remove from the heat and let cool for about 5 minutes.
Drop small spoonfuls onto parchment paper or use a silicone mold.
Let them cool completely and harden.

That's it! 🍯❤️

Honey should not be given to children under 1 year old.

Oh look, Mom's home! 🐔

I pulled in the driveway and here they all come running down to greet me. They must think I've got treats every time I come home. 😂❤️

🧄🍯 If you're wanting to start making some natural remedies at home, this is a super easy one to start with!

This is fermented garlic honey. Basically, you're letting fresh garlic sit in raw honey for a few weeks. The garlic and honey ferment together and make a sweet, garlicky mixture that people have used for generations.

The hardest part is peeling all that garlic 😂 After that, it's pretty simple!

🧄 Peel your garlic and put it in a clean jar.
🍯 Pour raw honey over it until the garlic is covered.
🫙 Leave a little room at the top because it'll bubble as it ferments.
🔄 Turn the jar every day or two to keep the garlic coated.
💨 If you're using a regular lid, carefully loosen it every so often to let the pressure out.
⏰ Let it sit for a few weeks and let it do its thing!
Once your garlic sinks to the bottom, that's a good sign it's ready! 🧄🍯

Garlic and honey are known for their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties and are often used to help soothe a sore throat and cough and for general immune support.
I love having simple homemade things like this on hand, especially with cold and flu season coming up! ❤️

There's just something about a young rooster learning to crow that makes me smile first thing in the morning. 🐓❤️

He's still trying to figure it out 😂 but he's getting there!

That little squeaky crow is becoming part of my morning around here. 🌾🐔

Anybody else love hearing their roosters crow in the morning?

The “ber” months are finally here! 🍂❤️ And on this 1st day of September, my house already smells absolutely amazing! 😋

I made some Amish bread this morning and that cinnamon smell has the whole house smelling like fall. 🍞🍂

There’s just something about warm bread baking that makes a house feel extra cozy.
Hello September… I think I’m ready for you! 🍁❤️

🐔 Well... tonight didn't go quite as planned. 😂

I had a chicken sitting on a nest of eggs for WAY over 21 days and not a single one hatched. So this evening I decided to try again and put 24 eggs in the incubator.

Well... about 2 hours later the incubator stopped working and smelled like it had been burning. 😩🤦‍♀️

So now I'm sitting here wondering what in the world I'm gonna do with these 24 eggs!

Do I put them under my broody hen and hope for the best, or what would y'all do? 🐣

Tell me it’s canning season without telling me it’s canning season. 😂

My kitchen has officially been taken over. Every counter is full, the table is full, jars are everywhere, the floors are a mess, and don’t even get me started on the dishes. 🤦‍♀️😂

I’ve been canning from daylight to dark and honestly… I’m tired. I’m just tired. 😫😂

I love having a full pantry and knowing we put all this food up ourselves, but whew… this canning season is wearing this girl OUT! 🫙❤️

We're a little late, but life has been busy around here.

We're getting ready for sick season and making some things to have on hand. Today we made fire c***r! 🌶️🍋🧄

Ours is a little darker because I didn't have turmeric root, just turmeric powder. But hopefully it still turns out good! Now we just have to let it sit for a few weeks. 😊

Tomorrow we plan to make fermented honey garlic.
