Happy June 1st and Happy Dairy Month! 🥛🐑

I have to say, I appreciate dairy farmers a whole lot more after realizing how much work goes into milking an animal every day. It’s definitely not as simple as just collecting milk!

We decided to try making butter from our sheep milk. After a little Googling, we learned that the cream needs to be separated from the milk first, so we used a milk separator. While people traditionally used a butter churn, we let the KitchenAid do the heavy lifting. 🧈😄

It’s pretty neat seeing milk go from the animal, to the pail, and then into something we can use in the kitchen.

June is going to be a busy one around here with the garden, animals, farmers markets, and all the fun that comes with summer, but we’re excited for it!

What are you looking forward to this month? 🌱☀️🐓🐑

We recently met up with GingerSnaps Photography and did a little gift exchange. We sent her home with some farm-fresh goodies, and in return she captured these beautiful film photos for us!

One of the projects we’ve been working on this year is setting up a drip irrigation system in the garden to help cut down on watering time.

Instead of dragging hoses around and watering each plant by hand, we ran drip lines down our rows of tomatoes and peppers. The lines connect to a water source and slowly deliver water right where the plants need it—at the roots. This helps reduce water waste, keeps the leaves dry, and can even help cut down on some plant diseases.

We ordered our supplies from Drip Depot and found it pretty beginner-friendly. The system is made up of a main water line that runs through the garden, with smaller drip lines branching off to each row. Tiny emitters or holes in the tubing slowly release water over time, giving plants a deep, consistent watering.

To help conserve even more moisture, we covered the drip lines with w**d barrier fabric. The combination should mean less watering, fewer w**ds, and healthier plants throughout the season.

Anything that saves time is worth a try! 🌱💧🚜

Have you used drip irrigation before? We’d love to hear your tips and tricks! 😊

PS- this was 100% Jim’s idea!

We took a lap around the garden today, and it’s always exciting to see how much changes in just a few days! 🌱

The tomatoes, black raspberries, and strawberries are all blossoming, which means we’re getting one step closer to harvest season. 🍅🍓

We’re hoping to have some of these fresh goodies available at the farmers market in June.

🌸 Almost peony time! 🌸

The buds are getting bigger every day, and the ants have officially arrived. 🐜😊

If you’ve ever wondered why peonies seem to attract so many ants, it’s because the buds produce a sweet, sugary nectar that the ants love. They’re not hurting the flowers at all—they’re just stopping by for a snack!

Now we’re just waiting a little longer for these beauties to put on their annual show! 🌸💕
