Come meet some sheep this Sunday! Join us for this talk and experience at 1130 AM.

✨️ Meet the Navajo-Churro: The Sheep That Helped Shape the Southwest ✨️

Discover the remarkable story of the Navajo-Churro sheep, one of the oldest and rarest livestock breeds in North America. Introduced by the Spanish in the 1500s and preserved for generations by the Diné (Navajo) people, Navajo-Churro sheep have played a vital role in the cultural, economic, and agricultural history of the American Southwest.

In this presentation, Diana Dougherty of Hestia’s Homestead will share the history of the breed, its unique characteristics, and the conservation efforts helping ensure its future. Learn why Navajo-Churro sheep are prized for their hardiness, adaptability, and distinctive double-coated fleece, and how farmers and shepherds across the country are working to preserve this important piece of living agricultural heritage.

Whether you are interested in livestock, fiber arts, conservation, or agricultural history, this talk offers a fascinating introduction to one of America’s most significant heritage breeds.

Topics Covered
The history of Navajo-Churro sheep
Their relationship with the Diné (Navajo) people
What makes the breed unique
Conservation and preservation efforts
The breed’s role in fiber, food, and sustainable agriculture
Why heritage livestock breeds matter

Diana will also share details about the upcoming Garden State Sheep & Fiber Festival, where the Navajo-Churro has been selected as the 2026 Featured Breed. Through a collaborative effort led by Hestia’s Homestead, Diné shepherds, weavers, and cultural educators will travel from the Southwest to New Jersey to share their knowledge, traditions, and experiences with festival attendees. The presentation will highlight the educational programs, demonstrations, and cultural exchange planned for this special celebration of the breed and the people who have stewarded it for generations.

Come show your support for Diana and her special cause this Sunday at 1130!

Join us while we continue celebrating our farmers for ! Eden Herbal brings farmed h**p skincare and healing products to our market every week. This is their first year with us and we are so glad they decided to join us this year! 🌱☀️

About Eden Herbal:
Never would we have imagined that moving to the Jennings Farm would become the very thing that changed an entire town, and me, forever.

The farm was originally meant to be nothing more than a home for our family, complete with a small horse boarding business.

Well… instead of leaving well enough alone, we saw the endless potential this land held. Before long, the sea of green that most would see as just another field became lush pasture for grazing cattle, producing what would become Medford’s favorite hot dog—and, if you ask us, the best you’ve ever had and ever will have.

And from that same soil, rich with life and proof of its own abundance, sprouted not only the healthiest stems, but an idea—one that would go on to transform the health of countless families. Eden Herbal was born.  We use whatever we can from our own farm, sustainably and naturally managed.

We’ve always loved to say, “You reap what you sow.” But for us, that saying has become, “You only reap where you’ve carefully sown.”

We care. It has never been about money. It has never come from a place of fear over the “what ifs,” and it has never been done carelessly.  We use the products we produce!

As first-generation farmers, we started with nothing but a dream and the willingness to work. No head start. No shortcuts. We did it the right way, and we did it with care.

Now, we get to step back and look at what we’ve truly sown—not money, not relief, but the joy on the faces of our neighbors when they say, “I can tell this is fresh. I can tell this is healthy. I can tell this is quality.”

A farmers market wouldn't be complete without a flower farmer! 💐👩🏼‍🌾☀️

Meet Alison, flower farmer/ florist and owner of Tangled Stem Harvest. Tangled Stem Harvest is a small-scale, cut flower farm based out of Vineland, NJ.

The focus is on regenerative farming practices and bringing the whimsy of the garden into each floral design and market bouquet. Alison got her start in nurseries growing annual flats and hanging baskets in greenhouses. She quickly learned she wanted to step away from the chemicals and industrial fertilizer to greener, more sustainable pastures. She set out to work on several different organic farms and for a few local florists, learning everything she could over the last 9 years.

By the end of 2024, Tangled Stem Harvest was born. Starting as just a part time, backyard operation, it has since become a full time job and expanded to a larger field.

This is Alison's second year with us here Rancocas Woods Farmers Market. We love having her!

Come support this wonderful small farmer and all of our vendors this Sunday and every Sunday through October 25.

See you this weekend!
