Join us every Thursday morning in July at The Nook in Downtown Concord. We'll read an educational book inspired by our nature themed craft! These classes are for children of all ages!

Make an adorable keepsake to take home, treat yourself to a coffee (you deserve it! 😉) and maybe make some new mom friends while you're at it!

After all, that's how Megan and Deanna met!

We commonly get asked "Who is the Earth and Who is the Egg?"

B- you pick (like flowers strawberries, pumpkins)

2) When you are outside you are mostly likely...

Mostly As- EGG!

You are like Megan! If you're not in the chicken coop fighting broody hens you're driving home from the farm store playing your worship music in your cutest matching set with a trunk full of new animals to surprise your husband with or a trunk full of hay!

Mostly Bs- EARTH!

You are like Deanna! You are most likely to be found sitting in your tree swing and bouncing back and forth between shopping for seeds, planting seeds, or harvesting flowers. You have absolutely no more room for plants in your garden and yet somehow you keep getting more! You have a pair of overalls in every color and love nothing more than talk endlessly about flowers or Taylor Swift to anyone who will listen!

🌸If Barbie was a homesteader this is what she would make! Mimosa jelly! Hot pink and tastes slightly floral, berry, and cotton candy! Yum!

While mimosa trees are not native to North Carolina if you look around - you'll start to see them everywhere! Megan has several on her property and she harvests the pink fluffy flowers, steeps it overnight to turn it into a tea. Despite their beautiful appearance the tea is a pale yellow color.

But here comes the magical part- once you add an acid to the tea it turns to a hot pink! And guess what the jelly recipe calls for? 2 tablespoons of lemon juice! Instantly, as soon as the juice is added the mixture turns to a vibrant zesty pink!

Hot pink and magical what more could you ask for!? How about some amazing health benefits!? The mimosa tree is commonly called the "tree of happiness" known to alleviate stress, anxiety, and sorrow. It's also rich in antioxidants and can help calm the nerves and relax your mind.

Luffa is not from the ocean! I repeat: luffa is not from the ocean!

Crazy right? When Megan and I learned we could grow luffa in our own backyards we immediately ordered seeds! Yes- the plant covering the tunnel behind us in the picture of us feeding the chickens is just luffa plants!

But this massive plant doesn't get big overnight- it takes allllllll of growing season to finally get a harvest! Like most fruits and veggies you have to wait for flowers to form before the fruit sets in. Despite planting these seeds in april- they won't flower until August and then won't be ready for harvest until late September/October. Right before the first frost.

But why do we allow this plant to take up so much space in the garden for such a long time during the season? (hello! They are taking up valuable cucumber space and have you heard how much we love our pickles?!?) Because of its amazing harvest!

Inside these gourds is nature's best scrub/sponge! You can use them as a kitchen or bathroom scrubber or in our favorite way- in our goats milk soap on a rope! The luffa is great at exfoliating (so great with peeling skin, cracked heels, or dry knees/elbows)and the goats milk soap has a smooth and rich lather while moisturizing your skin! We finally did it! We made mulberry jam! 🫙

Megan has a beautiful massive mulberry tree on her homestead. We rounded up the kids yesterday and picked enough to make a small batch of jam. Which is a big accomplishment since it's so tempting to just eat them as you pick! Especially for little ones!
