We have been enjoying some slower rhythms on the farm this winter. There has still been plenty to do, caring for our animals in the cold temperatures, starting seeds for next season and organizing our indoor spaces.
I've been deep into a few health books and adding healthy routines and recipes into our lives and gathering a lot of information to grow our vegetable garden. I may be a little too excited about my broccoli sprouts... But to me it's a symbol of taking another step towards healthier living for my family and accomplishing a goal to provide for the family. I'm all for anything that not only saves us money, gives us clean food, but also keeps me from having to leave my house and deal with the grocery store.
We have ventured outside a few times to play and take in the quietness and stillness of winter, not just do chores. Though, most days it has taken a lot of gumption to trek out in the ice to feed, clean the barn and break water troughs. It has been a cold and windy winter.
As I reflect on our year on the farm, I am mostly reminded of the burnout I felt and our multiple injuries during our busy season. But I also see the seeds of faithfulness and hope we planted. We invested in a lot of perennials this year that we will be the backbone of our gardens. Our fruit trees and berries bushes may not have had their best year, but there is new growth and promise for next. We built a flower shop that will continue to prosper and is giving back to our community.
We accept that not every year may be amazing, but it can still be progress. Our farm is in God's hands and we trust in His provision for us. He is faithful in blessing us with what we truly need. And sometimes that is a hard learned lesson in striving.
As we look forward to next year, we look forward to trying new things and giving our kids new opportunities.
I will be releasing control and slowing down even though it goes against the hustle culture we live in. Because if I learned anything this year, it has been that what is truly needed from me is my attention.
I hope you have enjoyed our garden this year and will visit us again next season. It will be beautiful โค๏ธ
