NEPA'rogi

NEPA'rogi A coal-town food brand preserving Slavic kitchen traditions, holiday tables, and the stories of the people who kept us fed. From Nanticoke, Pennsylvania.
(1)

NEPA Pierogi continues as a seasonal + story-driven brand. NEPA'rogi is traditional hand-pinched Polish pierogi. We are a family owned and operated small business. You can pick up ready-to-cook pierogi, frozen by the dozen, at our exterior service window inside the lobby of Tarnowski's Kielbasa on Main Street in Nanticoke. We offer our year-round menu with monthly feature fillings. Additionally, w

e have a food truck for events and offer wholesale to a limited number of restaurants and small grocers.

If you’re NEPA Polish, chances are HIGH your ancestors come from this region of Poland. Welcome to Zakopane, Małopolska in Spring! 🌷

The Górale people (Polish Highlanders) of the Tatra Mountains emigrated en masse in the late 1800s-early 1900s after economic abandonment by the Austro-Hungarian Government. Many are Catholic, with old Pagan roots, and a love for the outdoors and traditions.

Spring has sprung, Maureens Cones and More in West Nanticoke is OPEN for the 2026 season and with the bridge being out, we need to remember to support local!!

We got 2 OG ice cream sundaes - Tandy Cake and Almond Joy, and this week, they have soft serve coconut ice cream 🤤

We’ve loved their soft serve since we were kids, and they’re always getting creative with their hot food menu. (Yes, they ARE a South Valley spot for local lunch or to go dinner!!) Longtime SOB burger combo and recently added Kielbasa Sub are local gems.

Picture of delicious creative Nanticoke Pagash Pie from our neighbors for the algorithm! 🥔🍕📸 (im a hair away from doing a podcast episode on the time I spent a paycheck on rushing Kluski noodles for Haluski from Poland via Brooklyn only for the complainers to say they hated them 🤯)

What are you giving up this Lent? Or maybe, what are you doing a bit more of?

May we suggest: patience for small business owners of all kinds, but especially those specialty food businesses in NEPA?

Day after day we’re seeing the comments pile up on their pages, community pages, personal pages. And since we don’t have any skin in the game, we’re going to say something that was important to us when we worked early mornings, late nights, with slimmmm margins— because ingredients aren’t cheap and our workers deserved to be paid as much as they could— BE NICE.

This day and age people are writing whatever crosses their minds into the ether, and we know from experience, it’s taking a toll. You don’t have to write everything you think, especially the negativity towards some of the hardest working people we know.

So, if you know a hard worker, a teacher, someone in the trades, pharmacy staff, someone who deals with a lot of customers, a medical professional, someone who is working more than one job to make ends meet (which we had to do), gas station attendants, take your pick! PLEASE pay your kindness forward in their honor and stop being nasty. Because, when they go out of business, or in our case, choose to go out of business, we will certainly miss their cultural, handcrafted, homemade, from scratch food. Support small business this Lent by keeping some of those inside thoughts…. Inside. ❤️ Or at least PAUSE AND REFLECT before you choose to post.

NEPA’rogi is officially closed. This was not an easy decision, but it was the right one for now.

What started as a little kitchen project during a wild time turned into something I will always be proud of. Together we kept a piece of our heritage alive. Coal town kitchens. Blanket knitting Ciocias. Parish holidays. Slavic food that got our families through hard years and good years.

I do not know exactly what comes next, but I know the story is not finished. Going to take some time to rest, regroup, and figure out what preserving our culture looks like in the next chapter. Maybe that will stay here in NEPA. Maybe it will live online. Maybe it will travel.

If you felt at home with what we built, and if you are part of this tribe, I would love to stay connected. This link lets you leave your name and email so I can keep you in the loop about whatever comes next. Pop-ups, writing, travel, recipes, culture, stories, or something new that has not been named yet.

The shop has closed, but the culture we shared is not going anywhere. Thank you for every order, every holiday pickup, every story about your Babcia or Ciocia, and for letting us carry our food heritage forward for a little while.

With love and gratitude.
Dziękuję,

Lauren
