As a shepherd it is my job to try and protect these hard working critters. I've lost some to predators before, but it's been few and far between. Those losses were sad, but not senseless. A dog(s) attacked and killed the guardian and her ewe lambs. Moana and 5 of her charges died, we took the remaining injured home to be treated. We had to euthanize another. It was 💯 sport killing. These days make me want to hang up my hat.

I'm grateful for the support from family, friends, my employees and those involved with putting the day/ flock back together. It was tough!

At the end of the day I sat down for a little cry, and looked up at the peaceful view. It was healing. I think I'll try again tomorrow...

It was an honor to share how our grazing work helps reduce wildfire risk across Napa Valley. By using sheep to manage overgrown vegetation, we’re not just raising pasture-raised meat—we’re creating healthier landscapes and safer communities.

Grateful for the chance to highlight the role of regenerative grazing in fire fuel reduction. Thanks again, Crystal, for sharing this.
