Maine halibut here. The difference between Canadian and domestic Halibut is that domestic fish come in with the head on. This upsets some buyers. The extra weight of the head adds to the price of the fish. I don’t care. I want those cheeks. We sell the collars and a lot of the time we (try to) sell the bones and head for cheap so people can make soups and stocks. We use the whole animal.

Also it’s my last day (Meg’s last day) at Brightside and I just wanna THANK YOU ALL for being such great people/customers and reminding me that community can be built around the things you believe in: yapping about quality fish and local food systems. GREY TILEFISH (aka blue-line tilefish) from today’s episode of . Landing in Point Judith, caught in deeper water. This mild, white fish is in the same family as golden tilefish but offers something a smidge different- guess you’ll just have to try them both to taste the difference.

Slap a grey tilefish fillet in your hot cast iron with some salted butter and you’ve got yourself a happy meal.

Consider this episode of as a love letter to Scup (aka Porgy). This Rhode Island staple is one of our favorite sushi choices. They’re fatty, have a nice meaty flake and if you’ve ever gone fishing on the east coast- you probably recognize them. Best of Rhode Island awards are here and you can vote now! We are aiming for South County Best “Specialty Food Shop” and in the Statewide- Best “Locally Owned Seafood Market”.

RED SHRIMP. As most of you know (from our long customer interest list) we see these deep-water, local shrimp every once in a while. They land in Maine, Montauk and Stonington. They taste more like little lobster bites than they do shrimp. We got our hands on them this morning and they look…phenomenal…

We’ve packed them in bags, threw them in the freezer and will be ready for you at the shop while supplies lasts- $30/lb.

We’ve also got some Japanese staples in today. Onaga (aka ruby snapper) as pictured on the second slide. Hamachi (yellowtail sushi) which served as a nice fishmonger breakfast this morning

Lastly! Rhode Island Monthly has their “Best of Rhode Island” award voting this month. We’d love to win one 😏 going for “Best Specialty Food Shop” in South County and best “Locally Owned Seafood Market” for the state.

We love what we do and awards help us sell more fish. So help us sell more fish? :)
