It’s Fall y’all!
It might not feel too much like Fall yet but it’s the perfect time to decorate. We have pumpkins, Indian corn and corn stalk bundles out at the stand. We do not have mums this year (but plan to next year again).

We didn’t grow flowers this year but we will have all the veggies! The greenhouses are full of tomatoes that are starting to ripen and the fields are all planted. We will let you know when things are ready at the stand!

Also, after taking a year off from flowers, I don’t plan to make that mistake again! It was nice not to have that extra work while we were always gone with sports for the boys but now I hate not having flowers. It’s was a good year to take a moment to reevaluate and now I know what I need to do going forward.

The Chronicles of This Old Barn
Day 13 of Repairs
The final day of repairs!

It’s done! The barn is now a nearly blank slate full of possibilities. It has filled me with so many new ideas and brought some old ideas back to life. Now that hard part starts. Done are the days where we come home to find big accomplishments. The rest is on our shoulders and we have to carve out time on nights and weekends to make progress and work around everything else. Daunting, exciting, overwhelming- so many emotions! I can’t believe we got this done and got to this point, it has been years in the making!

The Chronicles of This Old Barn
Day 12 of Repairs

The bank into the barn has concrete now. The stone underneath will let it drain and the concrete helps hold everything together and keep water from eroding the wall. They also added dirt to the sides of the bank again to help support and hold everything together. Waylon will no longer be able to attempt to take flight by jumping off the bank wall with whatever contraption he’s trying to use to fly with. It was a good launch point for Waylon and a climbing wall for the goats.

The Chronicles of This Old Barn
Day 11 of Repairs

It’s getting very close! The windows are in place, the base is set for the posts through the barn and the bank is filled back in. The windows let in so much light! I think all that’s left to do is concrete the bank, put in the posts and remove all of the supports they have in. Then it will be time for us to rework the bottom of the barn to get stalls up and move animals back in. There’s actually a lot of work to do to get animals back in once the crew is done with repairs.

The Chronicles of This Old Barn
Day 10 of Repairs

Windows are cut out and holes are dug where the support posts will go inside the barn. I still don’t know how I will configure it inside but the possibilities are exciting! They also started to fill the bank back in. It will be wider and have concrete at the top. At least we can get to the top now. Its sooo close to being done.

The Chronicles of This Old Barn
Day 9 of Repairs

The rest of the wall in the back of the barn is built. Now instead of being able to see into the back of the barn, it has a wall and an 8 ft opening. This change doesn’t actually bother me and I thought it might. They suspect that part of the reason the barn has shifted so much is because of this wall being open. This is where the major movement happened. They also told me that the barn on the side of the overhang had to be lifted about a foot! All of the old wood stalls and posts in the barn were taken out today too. I have never seen the barn without those and they made it very hard to get around or change anything but they provided major structural support. It looks so big inside! Now to figure out how to put everything back in.

The Chronicles of This Old Barn
Day 8 of Repairs

Day 8
The rest of the wall on the bank side is built. Windows will be cut out once we have the actual windows so we need to buy those. They also have the small wall on the back side of the barn up. There is currently no access to the top of the barn unless you jump from the bank to the top. The stairs to the top of the barn will get moved when the whole project is complete.
