Meet Caroline Spalt, Co-Founder and the culinary heart and soul behind Atlantic Crab and Seafood. A true Cape Cod native, she grew up on the ocean, influenced by her commercial fisherman father, Jim Spalt. As the youngest of seven siblings, Caroline's love for the sea seamlessly merged with her flair for cooking.
Caroline attended Texas Christian University, earning a Bachelor's degree in 2020. Inspired by her family's fishing heritage, Caroline decided to get involved in her brother's fishing business.
As she entered the industry, she immediately identified a significant issue. Drawing from her unique vantage point as a second-generation fishing family member, Caroline witnessed the lack of transparency within the seafood industry. Shockingly, more than 80% of seafood consumed in America is imported from foreign nations, and roughly 110 billion pounds of seafood is wasted globally every year. Relying on foreign-imported seafood not only creates a massive environmental impact, but it jeopardizes one of the world's most responsible, well-regulated fisheries.
Caroline felt a responsibility to become an advocate and bridge the gap between fishermen and consumers, ensuring that every pound of our seafood is traceable through the recognition of our fishermen. Caroline is the driving force behind our commitment to connect you with the fishermen behind your seafood. Her dedication to sustainable, locally sourced seafood has become the cornerstone of her Atlantic Crab and Seafood journey. Caroline aims to rewrite the seafood sourcing narrative, promoting transparency and traceability, one wave at a time.
