I was called in to check out the aging bump out on this building in Wilmington to remove a hive. I looked and looked and took things apart to find the bees.

Residents reported a small number of bees getting into the apartments. The bees were flying into the bump out and were able to get into the apartment on the second floor and on the ground floor.

I concluded what we were seeing are scouts searching for a good spot to start a new hive. While I was searching a few individual bees were flying around. No large number of bees or hive was found.

The new hive stand is complete and the two hives are ready for bees.

My first year of beekeeping was last year, 2022, and ended the way many first year beekeepers do, with a lost hive. I will start again soon with new bees. 🐝
