For decades, we have been told that the movement of live deer—and later harvested deer—was the great engine spreading CWD across the landscape.
So we stopped arguing about it and started building the record.
Our new landing page brings the CWD history together in one place: state by state, detection by detection, investigation by investigation. We examine trace-outs, movement records, testing histories, epidemiological reports and the chronology of where CWD actually appeared.
But we went much further.
We focus on sworn testimony from civil cases, where agency officials, veterinarians and experts had to explain their positions under oath. We examine state Departments of Agriculture records, USDA agricultural data, crop production and the enormous agricultural landscape surrounding many CWD detections.
And we follow movement in both directions.
Not just deer.
We look at agricultural products moving out of heavily contaminated landscapes and into areas where CWD had not yet been detected—feed, forage, grain, seed and other materials originating in environments where CWD was already established.
Then we put the timelines beside each other.
If live-deer movement drove CWD across America, decades of aggressive trace-out investigations should reveal that trail. Agencies documented where animals came from, where they went, which facilities were exposed and what happened afterward.
Did CWD actually follow those deer?
Pick a state. Follow the records. Follow the trace-outs. Follow the positives.
Their determination to connect CWD to the captive industry may ultimately prove something very different. After decades of investigations, testing, quarantines and trace-outs, they created an enormous evidentiary record against which their own narrative can finally be tested.
And that leaves a much bigger question:
If the documented movement of the disease doesn’t follow the movement they spent decades blaming, while other pathways were moving continuously out of contaminated landscapes largely without scrutiny, why did they push so hard to create—and protect—that narrative?
We also understand that a large part of the hunting public is tired of hearing the same CWD messaging repeated as settled fact without being shown the complete historical record.
So this page will not be built for one audience.
It will be sent to wildlife agencies, state Departments of Agriculture, universities, USDA officials, researchers and wildlife organizations that have helped shape or promote the prevailing CWD narrative.
We want them to see the same records everyone else sees.
Follow the deer. Follow the agriculture. Follow the CWD. Then follow the evidence.
And this will be completely transparent. If anyone believes any piece of data on this page is wrong, show us. Send us the record, source or evidence that contradicts it. We will investigate it, correct anything that needs correcting, and show the correction.
This isn’t about protecting a conclusion. It’s about putting the entire record on the table and letting the evidence speak for itself.
