Headline: Bundle Up! The PGF Herd Is Ready for the Chill ❄️🐄
With the forecast calling for temperatures in the 20s and 30s all next week, we’ve been busy making sure our Black Angus herd is tucked in and taken care of. People often ask how the cows handle the cold—the truth is, they’re built for it, but a little help from us goes a long way!
Here’s how we’re prepping the pasture:
Natural Winter Coats: Our herd have already grown out those thick, fuzzy black coats. They act like built-in parkas, trapping heat and keeping them cozy even when the frost hits. 🧥
Automatic Waterers: No ice-breaking duty for us! Our automatic waterers ensure the herd has access to fresh, liquid water 24/7, regardless of the freezing temps. 💧
High-Energy Fuel: When it’s cold, cows burn more calories to stay warm. We’re upping their grain feed to give them that extra energy boost they need to maintain their condition. 🌾
Plenty of Hay: This is the secret weapon! A cow’s rumen acts like a big internal furnace. Digesting all that fiber in the hay actually generates heat from the inside out, keeping them warm through the night. 🚜
The temperatures might be dropping, but things are staying nice and toasty out in the field. "How are you prepping your home (or pets) for the cold snap? Let us know in the comments!"
Stay warm out there, everyone!
