We were honored to welcome Minnesota Department of Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen to the New Ulm Farmers Market on August 6 during Minnesota Farmers' Market Week!

During his visit, Commissioner Petersen met some of the many vendors who make our market so special and learned how an MDA grant helped us strengthen the market’s infrastructure last year.

Thank you to Commissioner Petersen and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture for visiting and supporting local farmers, producers and community markets like ours! 🌽🍅🥕

Vendor Spotlight: The Grand Center for Arts & Culture 🎨✨

The New Ulm Farmers Market isn't just a place to shop—it's also a place to create!

The Grand Center for Arts & Culture has been bringing free printmaking and book arts activities to the market, giving visitors of all ages the chance to make a unique art project to take home. Thanks to volunteer Skylar, each activity has been thoughtfully planned to inspire creativity throughout the season.

Located in the historic Grand Hotel building downtown, The Grand is a nonprofit arts center offering monthly gallery exhibits, live music on Friday nights, Creativity Camp for kids, and Cellar Press—a historic letterpress studio. The organization was founded after Anne Makepeace purchased the building, recognizing it had been built by her relative, Philipp Gross, and envisioned it as a place where the community could gather and experience the arts.

One of their favorite parts of the New Ulm Farmers Market is connecting with people who may not have visited The Grand before.

Be sure to stop by their booth, create something unique, and discover everything The Grand Center for Arts & Culture has to offer. 🎨💚

The Farmers Market was BUSY this morning, and we loved seeing so many families out enjoying the market, activities, entertainment, and all the extra fun happening throughout the morning.

Vendor Spotlight: Compass Rose Creamery 🧀🥛

From their 5th- and 6th-generation family dairy farm just outside Sleepy Eye comes one of the New Ulm Farmers Market's newest vendors: Compass Rose Creamery.

Founded in 2025, Compass Rose Creamery crafts artisan cheeses using fresh milk from their own herd. Their son, Isaac, brought home the knowledge he gained working at an award-winning creamery, and together the family began making handcrafted cheese curds in 2026. Every batch is made with a commitment to exceptional flavor, quality, and craftsmanship.

Jill's favorite part of the New Ulm Farmers Market is meeting people and watching their faces light up after tasting the cheese for the first time. If you're visiting their booth, don't miss the fresh cheese curds—they're incredibly creamy, flavorful, and unlike the mass-produced versions you may be used to.

There's even more to look forward to! Their handcrafted cheddar cheese blocks are currently aging and will be available this fall, with traditional Alpine-style cheeses planned for early 2027.

When you stop by Compass Rose Creamery, they hope you'll leave surprised by just how delicious handcrafted cheese can be—and maybe even learn that great cheese is best enjoyed at room temperature. 💛
