The share price goes towards the cost of growing and distributing a season’s worth of produce and paying the farmers a living wage. An administrative fee covers our site operating costs, and additionally, during the summer season, all members are required to work two volunteer shifts (totaling 3.5 hours). Over the course of the year members take home many, many different types of vegetables—usuall
y organic, always fresh-picked and changing with the seasons. In addition to vegetable shares, we also offer fruit, egg, dairy, and flower shares, as well as extras such as assorted meats, baked goods, jams, and more. Veggies and flowers come from Ted and Jan Blomgren’s amazing Windflower Farm, which is certified by a farmer-to-farmer organization for growers who agree to farm in accordance with the National Organic Program. At the end of each distribution session, unclaimed shares are donated to The Bowery Mission, a local charity that provides New York City’s homeless population with meals, outreach programs, tutoring services and more.
