It would be a terrible tragedy to lose another iconic New York Delicatessen. Even though we were on opposite sides in the "Deli Wars" we were both well aware that we represented a common good. The competition was much more friendly than the public knew. The Delis would always borrow items from one another and the employees were long time friends. Back in the day there was always more than enough business to support both establishments.

Too bad New York City doesn't regulate cooling towers as well as they do the restaurant industry. If they had maybe this tragedy could have been prevented. Make the owners of these buildings as responsible as restaurant owners are required to be! The restaurant industry pays tens of millions of dollars in fines every year and face immediate closure of their businesses if inspections are failed. While those building owners face minimum fines that go unpaid with little over site of the industry.
