We ran an interesting, somewhat impromptu, experiment this week. A neighbor gave me a quart of grocery store honey that had crystallized. I put it out on our back deck for the bees to use. Seven days passed with absolutely no interest in the jar of "Honey".

When we finished extracting from our hives, we put the empty equipment out on the back deck for the girls as well. Less than five minutes after placing it out there, and we had dozens of bees on the frames. Within an hour that number was in the hundreds. All the while they continued to ignore the grocery store honey.

My thought; just how adulterated does honey have to be for the bees to ignore it completely?

We have added rabbits to our little homestead again. They are an amazing resource for so many reasons.

One of our favorite things about raising meat rabbits is making "Rabbit p**p soup" to benefit our garden. We made some new slings to catch their droppings.

It was wonderful meeting and talking with you both today.

My son had the Pulled Pork Nachos and I had the Philly Steak with Jalapeños added. They did not disappoint, great food and large portions, we have leftovers!

We highly recommend trying them.

We had a productive day working on our aquaponics build, catching swarm #1 of the season, attending to last week's thriving split and expanding an overflowing colony.

Spring is a busy time hear on our little farm!

Saw this today from the National Honey Board, sounds really good!

Cook bacon in a large nonstick skillet on each side until crisp. Place bacon on paper towels and remove skillet from heat. Pour bacon fat into a heatproof cup and measure 2 T back into the skillet. Let bacon cool, then crumble into 1/2-inch pieces.

Made our first walk-away split of the year today. We will be doing at least two more in the next week. The girls are busy and happy.
