Why Supporting Local Farmers Matters More Than Ever 🌱
If you noticed fewer local peaches, apples, berries, or other crops this year, there's a reason.
Back in April, much of Pennsylvania experienced a hard freeze after an unusually warm start to spring. Many fruit trees and plants had already begun blooming when temperatures suddenly plunged into the 20s. For many growers, the blossoms that would have become this year's harvest were damaged or destroyed overnight. Some Pennsylvania farms lost most—or even all—of their fruit crop for the season. 🚜❄️
What many people don't realize is that farmers continue caring for those orchards, fields, and animals every day, even when a crop is lost. The bills don't stop. The work doesn't stop. The commitment to feeding our communities doesn't stop.
That's why your support at the farmers market matters so much.
When you buy local, you're helping farm families recover from challenges that are completely beyond their control. You're helping preserve farmland, strengthen our local economy, and ensure that local agriculture remains a part of our community for generations to come.
Every tomato, every loaf of bread, every bouquet of flowers, every pound of meat, and every jar of honey purchased from a local vendor helps keep these small businesses going.
This season, we encourage you to shop local whenever you can, get to know the people behind your food, and remember that every purchase is an investment in the future of agriculture right here in Central Pennsylvania.
Thank you for supporting our farmers, producers, and market vendors. We couldn't do it without you. ❤️🌽🥕🍓
