Often mistaken for celery or dill, fennel is a true original. All parts of the plant (the bulb, stalk, and feathery fronds) are edible, and it's rich in Vitamin C. Served raw, it adds a rich, licorice flavor to foods, or try it braised for a sweet and flavorful side dish:

Fennel bulbs braised until tender in anise liqueur and stock, then garnished with fennel fronds and orange zest.

When you get your berries home, prepare a mixture of one part vinegar and ten parts water. Dump the berries into the mixture and swirl around. Drain, rinse if you want (though the mixture is so diluted I find you cant taste the vinegar,) and pop in the fridge. The vinegar kills any mold spores and other bacteria that might be on the surface of the fruit, and voila! Raspberries will last a week or more, and Ive had strawberries go almost two weeks without getting moldy and soft.
