Not much new on the farm right now. Still snowy. The chickens hate the snow so they hold real tight to their warm roosts. I thought in the absence of their cute pictures, I would share with you a family chicken egg story.
Great Grandma's Egg Money China
This stunning china set has been in my family for generations. It's as beautiful as it's origin story.
My Great Grandma was a hard working rural woman who still had a taste for the finer things.
When she saw this set on display at the local general store she knew she had to have it.. even if peice by peice.
Every week she would tend her chickens, collect the eggs, and keep just enough to feed her family. Then once a week she would head in to town with the rest of the eggs. She would go to the General Store where the China set was, and they would purchase the eggs she brought. In return she would buy herself one or 2 new piece of the china set.
Piece by peice this set grew into the collection it is today.
One day I stopped through a thrift store, killing time and waiting for my next to-do. I needed no dishes but walked through that section anyways, and there it was, more pieces of the set. The store didn't accept cards so I purchased a few pieces with the only cash I had in my pocket... Which was there only from selling some eggs that morning. The egg money China continued the same way it began.
There's easily 150 peices, possibly more. Maybe one day I'll count them all. Today I'll just unpack them into my cupboard and smile, thinking of all the hard-working women in my family.
