According to a recent report by NPR … more than 4 million people are no longer receiving SNAP benefits as a result of changes to the federal food program. These changes are likely impacting people you work with, your neighbors, and members of our community. And, with the rising grocery costs, we know that many others are also struggling to put food on their table. Thanks to the generosity of donors to our nonprofit farmers market, we are able to purchase produce to put in the FREDGE for people in need. Thanks to the generosity of our farmers, our purchases are often doubled or tripled by their generosity. The FREEDGE is an important resource for people experiencing hunger in our community. September 8 is Senior Day. We’ve invited our friends at the The Gisbon Center for Senior Services and the MWV Adult Day Center to the market to share resources for older members of our community. Caravan Band will be back, bringing their acoustic tunes to the market, too. Now is the time to stock your freezer with fresh local meats, artisan baked goods, small batch preserves, and so many delicious fruits and veggies!

Get it while you can because October is around the corner and our fresh produce options dwindle once the freeze arrives.

It’s been another great summer for the MWV Farmers’ Market! But we’re not done yet! You still have four Tuesdays to shop local … there is never been a better time to visit your local hub for fresh, local food! The market will be open 3:30-6:30pm through September 29. Find us at 78 Norcross Circle by the community center’s playground.

Happy September! We know it’s a busy week going back to school, but be sure to head over to the market to stock up on lots of fresh veggies, local meats, coffee, eggs and more. Knowing where your food comes from and how it’s grown or made is powerful. Every week, we see the hard work that goes into growing and harvesting incredible foods for your table.

We are the featured nonprofit this week! Stop by our welcome tent to learn more about the farmers’ market, our FREEdge program, ask questions about SNAP, and get to know the board.

Take a peek at our vendor list for August 25. Our vendors offer great local foods, flowers, and other items. Plus! They’re a great resource for recipe ideas, too. Have you asked your favorite farmer, baker, or maker their favorite way to enjoy their products?

Three nonprofits who work with people experiencing addiction will be at the market to raise awareness about substance abuse, care, response, and advocacy. Find Carroll County Coalition for Public Health, Maine Health, and White Horse Recovery under the big tent to learn more.

Last, but definitely not least, Lilly Innella will be returning to the market to share her music with us.

Food in the FREEdge is for people who need help putting food on the table. If you are not in need, please leave the food for our neighbors who need it.

While the FREEdge is grant supported … funds to purchase fresh local produce is not. Donations from individuals and business sponsors make this program possible.

The FREEdge was restocked with fresh, local produce, eggs, and bread on August 18. Thanks to our vendors who donated and/or sold local foods to us for our FREEdge.
