We'll be u-picking again this Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th from 11 am- 5 pm. Available for picking are Niagara and Concord grapes, Bosc, Seckel pears, and Winter Nellis pears, plus a scant handful of apples.

🍇 Grapes look great! We expect to be picking for several weeks.
🍐 Bosc pears, like our earlier Bartlett crop, look nice! Now is the time. Seckel are high in the trees and are ok, but esthetically not perfect. Nellis have more "heavy" texture and are nice to store for later eating. I predict we'll be picking pears this weekend and maybe next.
🍎 Apples... I'll just repeat my sad message regarding apples. The majority of our trees failed to bloom due to 2 consecutive spring droughts. For every decent apple we do have, we see a handful that are not nice. We're considering this apple harvest a gleaning, maybe even a salvaging so that our trees can rest. Next year will be better. If you plan to attempt apple picking you'll find a few Empire, Northern Spy, Jonagold, and now Idared apples. It is crazy early for Ida, but we don't see much of a benefit in waiting. Idas were our heaviest cropper this season and the picking is decent. No Honeycrisp or Mutsu in 2025.

⏰️ You can expect our barn to be open for u-pick harvests each Saturday and Sunday from 11- 5 for the duration of this fall season. Details and prices in the comments...

We'll be u-picking again this Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st from 11 am- 5 pm. Available for picking are Niagara and Concord grapes, Bosc and Seckel pears, plus a scant handful of apples.

🍇 Grapes look great! We expect to be picking for several weeks.
🍐 Bosc pears are early, but ready to go. Seckel are high in the trees and are ok, but esthetically not perfect. I predict we'll be picking pears this weekend and next.
🍎 Apples. Um.. apples. As reported before, the majority of our trees failed to bloom due to 2 consecutive spring droughts. For every decent apple we do have, we see a handful that are not nice. We're considering this apple harvest a gleaning, maybe even a salvaging so that our trees can rest. Next year will be better. If you plan to attempt apple picking you'll find a few Cortland, Empire, Golden Delicious, and Northern Spy (yes, fruit is ripening early). We'll have Jonagold and Idared later this fall. No Honeycrisp or Mutsu in 2025.
🫐 (Pretend that's a prune plum) Our new prune plum trees are growing well, but not yet mature enough to bear a harvest. They'll get there eventually.

We'll be u-picking again this Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14 from 11 am - 5 pm.
Now on the menu McIntosh, Cortland, and Empire apples. Plus Bartlett and Seckel pears. Yes, calendar-wise it is early for some of these fruit varieties.

🍐 Consider this LAST CALL for Bartlett pears and Mac apples. I know we just started Macs, but I anticipate ALL harvests to be quick events this season. Bartletts are getting to the point where they're ripe on the trees for fresh eating. Know that Seckel are high in the trees and are fine, but esthetically don't look picture perfect.

💥 I can not stress enough, this apple season is just not IT. Apple picking this year is not a leisurely walk through a garden of Eden as we've been accustomed to in years past. Not only is quantity low, but for every 1 good apple I see there are 2-3 that aren't great for a myriad of reasons. Because of this, and I know I'm repeating myself, we will not be open for regular daytime weekday hours this fall. 🍎

🍇 Good news, grapes look good and will start soon... likely the weekend of September 20.

Bartlett pears! And the very last of this season's peaches. We'll be in the barn this Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31 from 11- 5.

🍑 Peaches are still nice, but in short supply. I'm sure the first Saturday pickers will clear them out. 💥 Update: Peaches are sold out and not available Sunday 💥

🍐Our Bartlett pear crop looks great in regards to quality and quantity. We expect them to remain in season for approximately 10- 14 days. Know that pear picking often requires use of a ladder. We strongly encourage pickers to bring a partner.

Now to answer the big autumn questions...

🍎 When will the apples be ready??
This year, unlike nearly all other years, we're seeing a 90- 95% loss on apples.
Sadly, the farm experienced two consecutive spring season with high heat and drought like conditions. Apples develop their next season's buds in May and June of the following year. No energy for buds = no blooms = no fruit.

YES, we will have apple picking opportunities on some of our apple varieties such as McIntosh, Cortland, and Idared. Other varieties such as Mutsu and Spy are practically non-existent.

🍇 But what about grapes?
No worries, Fruit Fans, grapes are looking good. Harvest usually begins at the end of September.

The apple shortage makes planning consistent hours tricky. Please follow along for now while we do our best to find a schedule that makes sense for us and for you. And so goes the life of a farmer...

Another peach picking opportunity is on the horizon. 🍑
We will be open for u-pick this Wednesday evening from 5:30- 7:30 pm.

Our first Redhaven harvest moved as quickly as we had anticipated, so a 2 hour window is probably sufficient. In addition to the remaining Redhaven peaches, we'll be picking JohnBoy, Glohaven, Loring, Harmony, and a few others.
** 2 bushel limit per household **

Yes, there will be additional dates to follow as our later varieties ripen. Also, Clapps Favorite pears are coming soon!
Be sure to check the comments for prices and picking instructions.
