Big doings here at Pete's Produce! A new greenhouse with an attached workroom was delivered recently, which Pete's wife (ME) appreciates ever so much since every spring there are seedlings growing all over the house!

Pete’s Produce is a small 10 acre farm on an historic, 250-year-old property in Franklin, CT where I use sustainable and low till farm techniques. I am not certified organic farm due my small size, but I do belong to the CT Organic Growers Association. I am located next door to the 4-H New London Summer Camp. My CSA is different from others because it is a free choice model: You get to pick what's in your share each week, selecting from a variety of available veggies. You will be able to choose 8 units valued at about $4 each. I usually have a range of 12-25 items per week available to choose from.The items available will depend on the season and other factors.

Crops planned; Hard neck garlic, variety of lettuces (heads and mixed), a variety of summer/winter squash, tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, carrots, cucumbers, onions, leeks, kale, peas, fingerling potatoes, pumpkins, beans, radishes, herbs, blueberries, peaches, raspberries, and sunflowers.

HARVEST TIME! Pete's Produce farm stand at our home, 47 Kahn Road, N. Franklin, CT, is OPEN! Currently selling broccoli, lettuce, two kinds of peppers, two kinds of fingerling potatoes, garlic, kale, and other goodies, all picked in the last week. Come, say hello, and fill a bag for your family!

So we had the first farmers market in Montville Tuesday and it was nice to make new friends! We sold spinach, broccoli, lettuce, blueberries, kale and assorted other goodies- more to come as the season progresses!

Picture taken yesterday. Everything is coming. Tomatoes are large and green, the lettuce is gorgeous but still needs a bit more time, the strawberries are lovely but beginning to decline in numbers. Garlic will be harvested in a week or two. I can't wait for the potatoes, and the plants look good! If you want your own choice of a weekly or bi-weekly box of veggies, sign up for Pete's community supported agriculture (CSA) , details in an entry below. Pete can email you once a week to say what is available. It starts July 9.

Free Choice CSA

I am offering a free choice model, where you get to pick what's in your share each week, selecting from a variety of available veggies, using a simple point system. You will have 8 units to choose from. The value of the unit is $3.50-4.00 at market. I will have a range of 12-20 different items per week available to choose from.The items available will depend on the season and other factors. A unit may be three pounds of tomatoes or peppers or eggplant, a pint of Sungold tomatoes, a pound of fingerling potatoes, a big bunch of kale, a bag of lettuce mix, a head of lettuce, a big bunch of radishes, sunflowers, herbs, etc. Your own decisions about what you take home, you get to enjoy your choice of healthy, delicious food that's fresher than anything you can find in the grocery store.
