Boulineau’s IGA has everything you need for a day or week at the beach! Frank and Louise Boulineau opened a grocery store in 1948 in Cherry Grove Beach that would grow with North Myrtle Beach and one day become a landmark. Originally, they moved to the beach because of Frank’s love for fishing. Hurricane Hazel came in 1954 and wiped out the store, along with most of the Grand Strand. In 1969, thei
r son Frank and his wife Elizabeth converted a portion of an 8,400 sq. discount store into a grocery store and Coastal Mart was born. In 1973, an additional 2,400 sq. were added and in 1975, a restaurant and laundromat were built adjacent to the grocery. Between 1975 and 1977 Boulineau’s opened both the Dairy Hut and The Barnacle, a unique nautical gift shop. Coastal Mart was expanded in 1980, and again in 1982, to meet the growing needs of North Myrtle Beach. In 1986, a major expansion was undertaken to double the size of the store to 50,000 sq. and the Boulineau name was again placed on the main store. A Shell Gas Station, Food Mart and Car Wash opened in 1994-95, continuing the Boulineau’s tradition of excellence. A True Value Hardware store opened which featured a Sportsman’s Center. Further additions were made from 1998 through 2015 including the construction of Boulineau’s iconic lighthouse. The store now features 85,000 sq. of shopping on two floors with glass elevators making Boulineau’s one of the country’s most unique grocery stores, complete with a food court, cafeteria and specialty shopping. Boulineau’s continues to grow and to serve the community’s needs with the acquisition of Platt’s Seafood, the conversion of True Value Hardware to Ace Hardware, the opening of resort wear store, Ocean Treasures and the opening of Boulineau’s Express Food & Fuel Center in 2018.
