Black Bear Honey

Black Bear Honey The Black Bear Honey name came to be after the original hive was “visited” several times by a black bear in my backyard in North Oaks, MN. No more black bear!

Since then, I have moved the hive to Stone Gate Farm in Stillwater, MN and added 2 more hives. Now the Black Bear Honey bees fly and forage their days away amongst pastures of grazing horses, nearby apple orchards and neighbors gardens. The multi-source honey produced by the Black Bear Honey Bees is strained and contains some pollen and may contain small particles of wax. Local raw honey is sought

after by allergy sufferers as the pollen impurities are thought to lessen the sensitivity to hay fever. (Strained honey means that the honey has been passed through a mesh material to remove particulate material (pieces of wax, propolis, other defects) without removing pollen, minerals or valuable enzymes.)

It’s the end of August, 2020 and this update is long over due. This past March, right before the Covid pandemic really started, I move to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. My husband Rob and I bought a house here in 2018 and over the past year+ we’ve been remodeling it. Now that the work is finished we moved all our furniture etc from MN to here but I couldn’t move my hives. They would have never survived traveling that far. So my bees stayed in MN. However, I did bring all my bee equipment with me and will start keeping bees here in MD in 2021. If you are looking for some great honey from bees in the area of MN where I lived - North Oaks, my friends Susan and Kate sell honey under the Silver Spoon Honey label. They may have honey available for you to purchase. Thank you all for your support and interest in Black Bear Honey.

The French honey bees made it!

© Beeopic It took me several days to think of the bees. After the smoke had cleared and the heartbreak settled in, I remembered: they kept beehives up there. So you might be wondering too: were the honeybees spared from the fire that ravaged Notre Dame and left the world in disbelief on that blac

Russian revolt!! My overwintered Saskatraz (a Russian honeybee mix breed), hive decided their queen wasn't doing her job so, two weeks ago, they got rid of her and now there are over a dozen queen cells (see pictures) in the hive. At this time of year, all I can do is sit back and watch and wait and see which queen cell will hatch first. I'll keep you posted.🐝
