Like most other co-ops around the world, Fare Share puts our values into practice by following the guidelines shared in the Seven Cooperative Principles.

The 2nd Principle, Democratic Member-Owner Control, sets us apart from other businesses, giving every owner a voice in shaping the future of Fare Share. Our semi-annual Ownerโ€™s Meetings are where that magic happens!

Read the 2nd image on this post for the agenda for the upcoming meeting.

In cooperation,

Fare Share is a diaper pantry site for our local community in the Oxford Hills and at this time we will also serve as a drop site for diaper and formula donations to be delivered to our neighbors in Lewiston. If you make a donation please let our staff know that it is for donation to Gather to Grow.

A reminder for today: Let your actions rooted in values speak the loudest, whether it be peaceful protest, mutual aid, or donating your resources. Be soft in your responses to those who doubt the work is worth our time. Today is a day to center our immigrant neighbors and to strengthen our commitment to making our communities a better place for all to live, work, eat, and play.

On Friday, January 30th, Fare Share Food Co-op, will be closed in solidarity with the National Shutdown, answering the call from members of our national cooperative community and also from our neighboring businesses across the state of Maine.

As a food cooperative rooted on Main Street in Norway, we believe our role goes beyond providing foodโ€”we are called to stand for humanity, accountability, and the dignity of all people. This action reflects our 7th Co-op Principle: Concern for Community, and we have been invited to join other Main Street businesses in this solidarity shutdown to show we will not stand for fear and violence in any of our communities.

This pause reflects our commitment to democratic action, mutual responsibility, and concern for our communities. Acting together is one way we live our cooperative values. We stand with those calling for justice and urge that all further operations from ICE in our state are either conducted with absolute discernment and discretion for the safety of all of our neighbors, or that they end.
