🐝 Still thinking about starting beekeeping but worried you'll mess up your first hive?🐝

You're not alone—most new beekeepers face the same fears: "What if the bees die?"
"What if they run away?" (This happened to our first hive)
"How do I spot problems early?"
"What about pests without harsh chemicals?"

That's exactly why we created this mentorship at Lazy Acres. Instead of jumping in alone and risking common mistakes (like over-inspecting, missing queen issues, or losing a colony to starvation), you get guided hands-on time with Michael.

Your starter hive stays safe on our farm—we tend it as necessary while you learn the real signs of a thriving colony, natural ways to help with pests, and how to build confidence step by step.

No pressure to bring bees home until you're ready (and Michael can even help set up your own hives when the time comes!).

Very limited spots for April/May 2026 start. If this sounds like the supportive intro you've been looking for, email [email protected] to chat or reserve yours.

Let's make sure your first bees thrive—organically and stress-free.

🐝 Why go organic with beekeeping?🐝

Many folks treat for mites with synthetic chemicals right away—but we've seen how chemical-free methods let bees build natural resilience, leading to healthier colonies and truly pure honey (no residues from treatments that can linger).

In our 3-month mentorship, you'll learn exactly how we do it: observing natural behaviors, early gentle interventions, and sustainable practices that support the bees instead of fighting them. Your personal deep box hive stays here at Lazy Acres, so you get to watch it grow strong without the full responsibility yet.

It's a gentle, real-world way to see if organic beekeeping clicks for you—before investing in your own setup.

Spots are filling (only a few left!).

You can split the $375 mentorship fee with a friend and share the Beginner Hive set up for the duration of the program. The mentorship comes with one workbook, but you can buy a second copy at the start of bee season if you so choose.

It's a quiet afternoon on the homestead, sun warming your back as you ease open a hive frame, spot strong brood and happy bees going about their day, and just take a moment to enjoy how peaceful and alive it all feels—no rush, no chemicals, just you and the bees doing their thing.

This is what Michael described to me when I asked him what was his favorite part of having bees. We started Lazy Acres with this mindset, trying to make the most intentional choice on how and when to spend our time.

That's what our 3-month Beginner Mentorship at Lazy Acres offers: hands-on time with your own starter hive (deep box + 10 frames + bees, kept safely on our farm), 2 in-person sessions per month with Michael for checks and troubleshooting, extra help when needed. Your personal deep box hive stays here at Lazy Acres, so you get to watch it grow strong without the full responsibility yet, as your hive will be included in our care of our apiary.

It's a low-pressure way to build real skills and confidence as a beginner. But if you fall in love with it (and many do!), there's an even sweeter next step:

Transition to apprenticeship for $50/month. Keep tending your hive, join checks across our full apiary, and deepen your expertise. Your beginner hive should be ready to add another deep box and 10 more frames soon if it's on track.

The payoff: Complete another 3 months of apprenticeship (total 6-month commitment: 3 mentorship + 3 apprenticeship), and if your hive produces in the fall—you get to keep half the honey your bees made! You'll get to learn the honey extraction process, and get to do your own before you take it home.

No obligation—the mentorship is a complete, rewarding experience on its own. But for those who want to go further, this path leads straight to tasting your own organic harvest.

Only a few spots left for the April/May 2026 start.

Thanks to Kaeli Peoples for being our first sign up :)

Someone just recently asked me, "What flowers bloom in the fall for monarchs?" Here are a few.

The best way to attract swallowtails to your garden is to plant their host plants!

Honey is a special treat made by bees, and it takes a lot of effort for them to produce just a little bit of it. To fill just one teaspoon of honey, about 12 bees must work together for their whole lives. This shows how hard these tiny creatures work for us to enjoy this sweet and delicious food.

To make that tiny spoonful of honey, the bees have to visit around 30,000 flowers. They fly from flower to flower to gather nectar, which is the sugary liquid that helps create honey. This journey is not short; in fact, the bees fly about 750 miles all together while collecting the nectar from the flowers. This tells us how strong and dedicated bees are in their quest to make honey.

In short, honey isn't just something we find in jars at the store. It represents the hard work and teamwork of many bees striving to gather nectar. Their efforts remind us of the important role bees play in our ecosystem and how much they contribute to producing the food we enjoy.
