Good morning local food friends!

Looking forward to seeing you today at the farmers market! We had a wave of new folks join the newsletter (welcome!!!).

Sharing some new updates and a quick reminder below:

The Community Soil Bank returns! Come get a free 4 gallon bucket of organic potting soil! Launching the “Community Soil Bank” back up to sow the seeds of generosity and local sufficiency. We have limited buckets so please bring your own container if you can. We'll be giving away potting soil in the spring and compost in the summer.

Yes! the OAKRIDGE SEED LIBRARY is fully restocked, check out some amazing varieties of seeds! The seed cabinet is absolutely brimming. Thank you to our friends at the Upper Willamette Soil and Water Conservation District, Lane Forest Products, Agrarian Sharing Network, Circle h and local Westfir/Oakridge seed savers (who lovingly donated seeds from their garden last year) for making this possible again this year!

Beekeeper Tom of Ambroson Apiaries will be there today with his wonderful local honey! Gail of Cheviot Hill Sheep will be bringing some spring lamb chops, nutritious organ meats, and bones for belly-healing broth. Joel of Circle h will be there with easter egg radishes, japanese salad turnips, chives, dill and more (give him a great big thanks for trucking up 8,000lbs of soil for the Community Soil Bank ♥️).

Our little local homestead family! Sharing in case you want to donate or join their beautiful efforts!

Ok everyone we helped lots of people with our first round but I think we can go bigger this time. In order to do so we need YOU!!!!!
We are looking for volunteers to help get more jobs done faster and have a hopeful goal of $400 raised in order to cover most of the cost of fuel, dump feeds and to make sure everyone working has drinks and snacks. Information is on the flyer. If you have more questions send us a text or a pm and we’d be glad to help! It should be a fun day of community, laughs, photo opportunities and hard work with new friends.
If you know of someone who would like to help or who need the yard pick me up please send us a message! Even if it is an elderly neighbor who doesn’t use social media id be glad to get an address and stop by to offer the service!
Thank you everybody for helping us spread the word and we hope to hear from you soon!
Update*** upon hearing this was tree planting festival weekend we have changed the date to the 9th. Hopefully we can put a couple teams together to divide and conquer!

YES! Lane County Bounty accepts SNAP as payment online, and customers get up to $20 in DUFB (Bounty Bucks) to use on their next purchase. Hot tip: it's totally fine for you to place more than one order so you can use your DUFB and get it all delivered for pickup together.

Hello dear community!

We've been hard at work this winter putting together this wonderful event for you. Please join us this Sunday, March 15th 1-4pm for the SPRING PROPAGATION FAIR! Right here in Oakridge. ♥️🌱

The vision is "sharing abundance", the only rule "don't be greedy". 🕊️ Bring extra seeds and plant cuttings from your garden, or come empty handed. Come pick up some:

❇️ FREE SOIL❇️ : grab a FREE bag of organic potting mix perfect for starting out seeds in pots, filled with great ingredients (mycorrhizal fungi, kelp meal, oyster shell, bone meal. Thank you Soil and Water Conservation District for supporting local gardens (and our friends at Circle h for lugging it over)!

🌞FREE PLANTS🌞: the Garden Club is hosting the live plant booth, where you can bring any live cuttings or bulbs or plant starts or rooted berry canes to share. It's the "Sharing of the Green" : a decades-old Oakridge tradition. OSU Extension Master Gardeners will also be there with their Plant Clinic, with kid's activities by 4H.

🌱FREE SEEDS🌱: seed swap inside the church gathering hall. come help yourself to a startling array of some AMAZING high-quality seeds from local seed producers like Adaptive Seeds as well as local farms across Lane County. Please, please resist the urge to hoard, and only take as much as you will grow this season so that there is enough to go around.

GUEST SPEAKER: 2pm-3pm. Come meet community seed keeper (and genuine seed wizard) Mike Brunt of Cascadia Seed Guild for a walkthrough of some special bioregional seeds at the seed swap. Get inspired by stories and techniques from real community seed stewardship - and join in the local effort!

🍎🌸Custom Grafted Fruit Trees and Propagation Demos🌼🍑: Over 200+ varieties of apples, pears, asian pears, grapes, plums, cherries, quince, figs, willows -- all collected from regional orchards by a devoted group of volunteers this winter. Pick out your fruit tree and these will be live grafted onto "rootstock" (root systems with special qualities) to create a custom fruit tree in front of your eyes. Learn the skillful art of propagation. Rootstocks are $5 (5 trees max per person). YES! SNAP + DUFB will be available for purchasing fruit trees!

Spring Propagation Fair (Oakridge Seed Swap, Tree Swap) with the Agrarian Sharing Network will be March 15th, 1-4pm

This "Spring Propagation Fair" event offers an amazing selection of FREE seeds (featuring some wonderful heirloom regionally adapted varieties) as well as scion (fruit tree cuttings) from hundreds of varieties of apple, pear, plum, cherry, fig, grape, willow, medlar, quince... Rootstock is available for purchase ($5) and grafters will be on hand to send you home with a custom grafted baby fruit tree.

What started in someone’s garage as a neighborhood seed swap has grown and developed into a series of special events from Williams, to Cottage Grove, Springfield, Eugene, Corvallis, Mapleton and Oakridge. It has developed into one of the country’s premier opportunities to share and distribute rare, unique and important fruit tree varieties. In addition to seed donated from home collectors or organic local producers such as Adaptive Seeds and Peace Seedlings, the Agrarian Sharing Network has started its own Seed Increase Initiative to steward regionally adapted seed.

At the spring propagation fair, the Oakridge Garden Club invites you to join the “Sharing of The Green”: an Oakridge tradition. Have extra plant starts? Bring ‘em along! If you have seeds, strawberry, raspberry canes, flower bulbs or other plant divisions, or anything else to share, please bring them along to the event, otherwise just show up and take home some treasures to grow.
