MERCHANT IN THE NEWS - The Ocean Pines Farmers & Artisans Market is pleased to announce that Carol Cross of Cross Farms of Berlin, Maryland has been named Food Access & Community Wellness Coordinator for the Market.
In this volunteer leadership role, Cross will oversee the market's special food access programs, including SNAP/EBT, WIC Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP), Senior FMNP, and special dietary and nutrition programs offered in partnership with the health department.
The position was created to make fresh, healthy, local food more accessible to all families in Ocean Pines and surrounding communities, and to ensure shoppers who use nutrition benefits have a welcoming, knowledgeable point of contact at the market.
Cross is well known to market customers as part of Cross Farms in Berlin and brings years of experience as a local farmer, a farmers market merchant, and advocate for local food access.
“I believe everyone in our community should have access to fresh, healthy food grown right here,” said Carol Cross. “I’m honored to help our neighbors use their benefits at the market and to build stronger connections between our farms, our health partners, and our community.”
Market Manager, David Bean said the new role will help expand community outreach, and strengthen partnerships with the Worcester County Health Department and other community wellness organizations.
Shoppers who use SNAP, WIC, or Senior benefits are encouraged to visit the market to learn how to access and use their benefits for fresh fruits, vegetables, and other eligible foods.
