All raised beds are filled with soil 💪🏽 we’re very thankful for Russ donating his time to Food Sov. He and Randy worked hard to get it done! Also, chi Miigwech to Roads dept for loaning us their dump truck.

Dirt is now available for tribal members! The pile near the Casino is first come first serve.

Happy gardening!

In case you’re curious what over $1,300 of plants looks like!! Hausers grew us a variety of tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, acorn squash, cabbage, broccoli, herbs, and flowers for our plant giveaway.

The money for these plants did not come from a grant. It came from program revenue and donations. Every bit counts and goes right back into the community.

We can’t wait to share these with you! 🪴

Food Sovereignty Updates!

NEW BUILDING:
We finally got the keys to our new building 🥳 this move into our new building happened to fall on the busiest month of the year for us, so it’s been a slow process getting situated. We are so thankful for the strong guys that showed up to help move the big things in! Much appreciation to Eli, Russ, Linton, David, and Randy! 💪🏽

For our community: once we are more situated, we will hold a soft opening this summer for you to come see the new Food Sov building! Until then, please be patient with us. There are still a lot of things that need to happen regarding hook ups and making it ADA accessible.

SOIL:
We did get soil delivered again near the casino. We need to utilize the pile FIRST for filling the raised beds we have built and make sure we can fulfill soil needs for our home garden program BEFORE we open it up to the community. We do have extra though. Most likely soil will be available on a first come first serve basis in early June. We cannot do soil deliveries beyond those who got a raised bed from us this year. If you are interested in a raised garden bed, we can add you to our list for spring 2027 🌱

PLANT GIVE A WAY:
We will hold our annual plant giveaway at the end of this month. It will be Saturday, May 30th at Housing. Be on the lookout for the flyer soon 🪴

SPRING HARVEST FEAST:
A time to gather for celebrating and giving thanks to the bounty of wild harvested spring foods. Friday, May 29th at the Wake House. Flyer to come soon!

Happy Spring 💛🌷
