Looking forward to working with our community to dream about what this can look like. Stay tuned for more on that.
Joint statement from Homeland Stores and Restore OKC:
Many of you heard the news last week that to ensure its long-term ability to serve communities across our state, Homeland Stores is closing and consolidating several locations across Oklahoma.
Over the past several weeks, our teams have been working to ensure the grocery store at NE 36th & Lincoln was not placed on a closure list. As a result of our partnership and those conversations, Homeland moved the location to a potential sale list rather than closing it to allow us time to find a path forward for community-ownership.
Homeland and RestoreOKC have partnered for more than five years to expand food and health access in Northeast Oklahoma City through initiatives like The Market at EastPoint.
During this exploration period, Homeland Stores will continue to absorb operating costs while RestoreOKC works with partners to raise the necessary funding to secure the store for long-term community ownership.
Both organizations share a deep commitment to the neighborhood and recognize the importance of this location as a vital source of food access, local jobs and economic stability.
Our hope is that through collaboration we can not only keep the store open, but ensure it becomes a long-term community asset that helps rebuild a circular economy where the people who live here share in the value created here.
