The Shark Shiver is one of OCSAA’s signature yearly events, helping sustain programs that provide year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual or physical disabilities. Through these opportunities, participants gain confidence, develop physical skills, and build lasting friendships while experiencing the joy of competition.
We’re proud to partner with our local Elks Lodge 1822 in Okmulgee for this fundraiser and support this incredible cause. Our General Manager, Marcus Palmer, will be taking a frigid plunge on our behalf to help raise money and awareness.

Economic development isn’t just about new companies coming to town — it’s about helping the ones already here grow stronger.

Today I participated in a meeting with leadership at The Pump & Motor Works in Okmulgee. Founded in 1989, this family‑owned company has spent more than three decades building one of the world’s largest inventories of large electric motors and industrial pumps while serving clients globally.

Pump and Motors Works is a full‑service engineering, manufacturing, testing, and design facility right here in Okmulgee — and now, they’re expanding with plans to increase production and create additional jobs.

Supporting industrial companies like Pump & Motor Works — helping them grow, innovate, and add jobs — is what Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) is all about. It’s about strengthening the economic fabric we already have, not just chasing headlines about new businesses. Although we do hope for some good headlines! When existing employers scale up, the benefits ripple across our community — more jobs, more opportunities, and a more resilient local economy.

Thanks to the leadership at Pump & Motor Works for letting us be part of their growth story.

And the good news is they’re not alone! In recent years, Covington Aircraft, Tate & Lyle, Anchor Glass, Bullet Fence have also expanded, and a few others are in the process of planning an expansion. Expanding industrial companies is a strong sign that our economy is healthy and growing, creating more opportunities and strengthening the community for everyone.
