Mornin! Y'all good? Do anything over the weekend?? We just piddled around. Fixed a couple of racks of ribs, some squash and brocolli. It's right purty..the brocolli..it's not what we usually plant(Walthams 29) but it'll hold it's own. This is Goliath, but the heads are actually running smaller than the other. No excess yet. We've been gobbling up everything that's been cut.
We're picking a few squashes. They're running on the small side, we're a squash hongry right now and they ain't getting in any grow time. Know what I mean? Plus, both are a new variety, less for the market and more eatin up right outen the garden, soooo...It looks like they produce a lot of smaller squashes
I'm going to cut a few cabbage tomorrow the pot. They'll be ready the middle to the end of next week for real but I'm a gettin cabbage hongry. I did one of those .99 cent lb. Boston Butts in the crockery pot for the JDog, Monday, so I have this jar of piggy stock, a sittin in the Kelvinator, a waitin. Anyway, the dry weather has kept them small but what's afraid of is this rain is going to accelerate their growth. These were the ones we seeded back ..Dec.27th, so the plants have matured out (90 days) and what is it..first of June? What we're 120 days in, so I'm pretty sure with this rain..they're going to go into overdrive.
I have managed to get Cubbett re-assembled. She's running good. Steers, drives okay. Serviced, new belts, new drive pulleys, changed the oil in the hydro-drive. Did a shakedown, some mowing. Making sure. Didn't finish up mowing though, the fuel bottles are empty and I was waiting till the sparrow poops in my bank account before running by the gas station. I have managed to run the month on 1 tank of gas in La Toya and still have about a quarter left. But both Big John and Cubbett's tanks are down into the 1/8th level, sooooo...
The next piddlin place, I reckon is to get this pile if parts assembled into a working cultivator. The rains going to let off soon and things are a goin to need cultivating. So while it's sorta dry, I gotta drag out an extension cord, and with a cut off wheel on a 7 inch grinder, cut those few fasteners that 65+ years of circumstances have made them unworkable.
Okie, doke? Y'all take care!!

The pick your own bean patch is up and doing well. I had no doubt it would. I'm not going to run irrigation or anything other than plow em feed em and keep the bugs away.
Sweet Bay's a bloomin. Smells so good, I could sit by this all day. I used to help pull the blossoms off, grandma would stuff em in and old stocking and hang em in her closet.
I gotta get busy with the collard seed. The birds are making themselves at home and I did want a few. They just aren't dry enough yet, and they're tricky getting the timing right if you put them to hang and dry. I have a dozen or so pieces of rope that'll get lain up in the tops. Birds think it's a snake. Fact of the matter...ain't no time like the present. See ya!!

Whewwww!! Had to take a sit down break! Taking advantage of the cool the moist ground, all that other stuff, to sn**ch up a few weeds out of the kitchen garden. I'll probably run the tractor over these cucumbers before trellising them. They're begining to put off runners. Anyway;
Hey! How're y'all doing? Boy, that rain was nice. Y'all get any? I'm going to check out the 'where is supposed to be a corn patch' place on a little bit and while the planters still on Fergee...get er done! Oh, I forgetted!! I did get the future proposed 'pick your own' bean patch planted Wednesday afternoon. 3 150ft rows each of Contenders and Blue Lakes 4 150ft rows of Brown Crowder peas. I know that doesn't sound like a lot but we're still early in the season. If this pans out, we'll double it in the fall. Okie, doke? This is on an inspiration so it's going to work. So far I've got $16 in seed, $25 in fertilizer, maybe $25 in fuel, my time,(free, unless I have to put as a priority) maybe 3 hrs., wear and tear on the tractor and some misc. invested. The hopes is to be able to provide fresh beans for folks who have less disposable income than others and are willing to put forth an effort. Okay, gotta go..thems weeds is a growin
See ya!

Hey! Mornin!! Okay, let me explain.. well, the garden/house has a new phone. Ain't that a purty picture...clear, crisp, someone needs to do some dusting. I found those 4 grape seed I saved from those huge Concord Muscudines I bought from the Pig last fall and I was going to plant.
Anyway...No more Cat phone. It was supposedly not compatible with 5G so them folks done hooked us up with a new one. They said for free...but know how that works. Anyway, Miss Connie dragged it up here from the phone place last Thursday but this is the first time I've had a chance to 'play' with it. Soooo...
Look, I lost a lot of the usual stuff they say you a ain't a going to loose but you do, so til we get everything set back up...cool your jets. We ain't mad or nuthin. If you call and leave a message..we lost a bunch of contacts..something about 5G not supporting 3G. IDK, I'm not a tech or nuffin. So you may need to leave your name until we get all back that stuff re- established. Probably agoin to be some other stuff too. I'm already working on teaching this auto correct mess, country folks talkin. Okie, doke? Thank you a bushel and a peck!!

Good morning!! Shucks, it's almost lunch time. Anyway. Piddlin is getting my tech overdose this morning. Ain't it a beautiful day? Just what the Good Lord ordered.
Getting some files cleared up, streaming some classic country.
I've been putting off this and that until a rainy day..waky, waky...it's here!! This ain't all of it..I'm catching up on my laundry. You know, the stuff that needed to be washed but you were wearing on wash day. No.....but if you need to know...laying up around the house attire. Been doing some piddlin around the kitchen. No cooking today. We have some leftover soup for supper. Maybe a peanut butter cracker..All's good!
The plan was to, yesterday, get those green beans planted. That didn't work out. No complaints because I really believe, the inspiration is so strong on this, I believe the right time will come. I don't think the soil is ready personally. There's still a lot of non-decomposed materials there where it's been so dry. Planting seed is not like planting started plants. The microbial beings don't know the difference between seed and debris and if you have any abundance of debris and the soil temps, moisture and acidity are not quite right...the seed become feed. That's the way God meant it to be. Stuff like field corn and non food seed are treated with stuff to compensate. There is a treatment available for edibles but..for one..it's expensive for the average, small time growers. They term it..inoculated..
We ain't going there.
So we wait...
Mmmmm..a couple of peanut butter crackers with a cup of coffee..sounds like lunch.

Mornin!! Y'all good? Y'all get any of that rain? About 4/10ths fell around here and we're gratefully for every drop. I know I gotta get my hiney in gear. I've been doing odd jobs, piddlin around, waiting for some rain. Now we have it, so.....
Did a ride about awhile ago, took some pictures if interested. They're narrated.

Wheewww!! Howdy, howdy!! Y'all good? There's been considerable piddlin going on since the last post. Decisions, decisions! It's looking like those Indian flour corn seed are going into the freezer for next year. I don't know. It is a 120 day crop and we still have around 3 weeks in the planting window. All the weather folks are saying, "dry, dry, dry", so, it is, what it is. I hate for the birds to eat up $60 worth of seed, around $80 worth of fertilizer, especially when it's a no paying crop. Know what I mean. The inspiration is still strong on planting a bunch of green beans. Kinda like a pick your own deal over in the road front of the big field. We'll see. Waiting on a little moisture.
It's all good though. I'll try to keep you posted on further happenings.

Howdy, howdy! Y'all good? We are. Plenty of projects going on in the garden. I hadn't made a post in a while and I was thinking, if you're interested, I'd let y'all know what happens in betwixt and between. Here's a few pictures. I narrated them soooo....
Anyway that's just a little of what happens around the garden during the week. Everything is paid for as we go so sometimes funding is the holdup, sometimes there aren't enough hrs in the day.

03/20/2026

Y'all good?? Happy first day of spring!! Well, the collards are done. I'll be doing some tractor work over in that vicinity today and tomorrow. We set out something like 47, 48 pointy head cabbage and 25 hills of broccoli last week. It looks like they're all good. I have around 400 onion plants out in the greenhouse that are going in asap. Hey! There ain't but one of me, some things gotta get done before the other. The trays are cleaned up to seed 3, 400 zinnia's and I'm working on fixing a place to sprout some sweet potatoes. I've gotten all my dr. vistin covered for the 6 months or so. We're good. Well, unless...naaaa...ain't agoin to talk about doing something stupid. Anyway, we're set on go. I have some mechanicin to do on the farm equipment. Working on building a new small tractor to replace that little John Deere.
Waiting on that dreaded call from the accountant. Anyway, a bunch of stuff goin on. I'll let you know when those cabbages start getting ready. Ain't no way we agoin to eat up all those cabbages so y'all agoin to have to help us out. Like usual we'll price them for working folk. You can tell folks anything you want.
Thanks for reading..Y'all come see us!!

Hey y'all! I just got everything in the greenhouse all watered up for the day and then did a quick ride thru of the garden. We've had a couple of inquiries of the status of our collards. They say a pictures worth a thousand words so here goes. If interested give us a call. My schedule is pretty much open for the remainder of the week and if it'll help you out, I don't mind cutting you a order. They are beginning to flower so maybe a couple of more weeks and we'll be cutting them in. Okie doke?? OH!! $1.75/lb. We haven't cooked any of these. They're the late ones we planted for New Years and Kwanza and the weather stunted their growth. So, I'm sure they're okay but sometimes they pick up a bitterness as the weather warms.

Hey! Y'all have a good weekend? Boy, oh boy, how about the difference between yesterday and today? I had some computer work to catch up on this morning but when I did get out...put it like this...them chores didn't take long. Good thing was most of them were in the greenhouse. It was 70 in there. The plan today was get those fruit trees, blueberry bushes, grape vines planted back in the orchard..they'll wait. I even mixed up some 25/1 fuel for the auger yesterday. That thing is a back saver in this ole gummy clay. That stuff'll break shovel handles. I go down about 30 inches, yep, all the way to the clutch housing. Then clean up the hole with regular post hole diggers, then backfill with some good soft dirt and waaa, laa. Planted. Noooo, that's not pink Kool aid in the pictures. Getting those plants ready to go with some 18 18 21 in their water. The package says mater fertilizer but I'm looking for more potassium and potash for overall plant growth so that's what I use in the greenhouse. If interested, I captioned the photos.
