Yes, lovebugs are back, but UF Entomology & Nematology Department experts say they’re more nuisance than threat 🪰
Lovebugs don’t bite, sting, or spread disease, and their swarms are short-lived, usually lasting only a few weeks in each location. While they may coat windshields and frustrate drivers, researchers say they actually play a helpful role in nature by breaking down dead plant material and recycling nutrients back into the soil.
To reduce your contact with Lovebugs, skip the insecticides, which are largely ineffective against lovebugs, and instead use practical solutions like fans, closed doors, and early morning or evening travel to avoid the heaviest swarms. You can also use a moist cloth or even a dryer sheet to help remove lovebugs from your car.
