“Remembering the Brave: A Tribute Beyond Borders”

“Aye mere watan ke logon
Zara aankh me bhar lo paani
Jo shaheed hue hain unki
Zara yaad karo qurbani”
—Kavi Pradeep

Translation:
“O people of my homeland,
Let your eyes well up with tears.
Remember with gratitude the sacrifice
Of those who became martyrs.”

These powerful words, written by Indian poet Kavi Pradeep, transcend borders and speak to the universal truth of sacrifice. Today, on Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who gave their lives for our freedom. Their courage is eternal, their sacrifice sacred.

Let us never forget.

🌿 First Impressions Matter—Especially When They’re This Heartfelt 🌿
Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of welcoming new visitors to our garden behind the shelter—and their words truly touched us:

🗣️ “We toured the lush gardens, buzzing with bees, butterflies, and cheerful volunteers of all ages. It was clear the plants were deeply cared for—thriving vegetables, herbs, and fruit trees vibrating with love and light. We even got to take home some beautiful produce.”
🌱 “Thank you for sharing your knowledge of sustainable farming. The garden is not just growing food—it’s growing community, care, and inspiration. Seeing young people engaged was especially moving. This is a rare and selfless labor of love.”

These reflections affirm what we believe: when we nurture the earth and each other, something beautiful grows.

💚 Food is medicine—and when it’s grown with love, it nourishes more than just the body 💯

If you’re passionate about sustainability, youth engagement, or community-driven agriculture, we’d love to welcome you to the garden. 💚 Discover what makes this little ecosystem thrive. You are part of the magic. ✨

Just look at this giant!
It was hiding ways up camouflaged between the leaves. I only spotted it this morning as it started to change color!
All I can say is, I must have some excellent soil ❤️

Just planted a few more Turmeric - one of my most powerful “natural” medicines. I leave a few small rhizomes (and sometimes they escape being harvested), so that I can have early growth of the leaves - excellent for tea and cooking. The occasion watering with the nutrient rich fish water really helps the growth ❤️

Propagated a few Red Hibiscus plants in the hybrid Aquaponics grow-bed - took cuttings from one of my favorite Hibiscus plants. It took about 6 months to get the cuttings to develop to the large plants that were transplanted. Just look at the amazing roots - totally clean.
Looking forward to lots of flowers - especially to offer in prayers ❤️

My Friend gifted me a Lemon Meringue scion this morning. This is one variety which I do not have so I am trying my hand at grafting on to a “volunteer” mango seedling. Let’s see if I am lucky enough to get a successful graft and eventually fruit - everything that I have read of this variety excites me to experience the taste and fragrance 😊

“History
Lemon Meringue Mango aka “Po Pyu Kalay” is from Myanmar (formerly Burma). In 1995 it was introduced to Miami by grafting master and founding member of the Miami Rare Fruit Council, Maurice Kong. Lemon Meringue is a medium to large vigorous upright tree that produces 6-12 oz, golden yellow, elongated fruit. It’s sweet & spicy flavor and aroma is reminiscent of citrus, thus it’s nickname “Lemon Meringue”. “
