Ron and Vickie moved to the family-owned farm in July 2013. The farm was first purchased by Ron's great,great......grandfather Jonas Hoover July 4, 1846 before Iowa became a state. It has been a traditional corn, soybean and hay rotation. We started with 2 hives of honeybees in 2013 and now we have 11 hives. In 2014 Vickie grew a large garden, started and took some produce to the Oskaloosa Farmer's
Market. In 2015, we tripled our gardens and had an a bumper crop that we brought to the Oskaloosa farmer's market. During the summer we brought home some chicks and now have 45 happy pasture-raised hens producing XL and Jumbo brown and blue-green eggs. In Fall 2015, we erected a 30' x 96' high tunnel greenhouse so that we could have better control over the vegetable environment and extend our season. This year, 2016, we are forming a CSA. Community Supported Agriculture is a connection between a nearby farmer and the people who eat the food that the farmer produces. The farm feeds the people; the people support the farm and share inherent risks and potential bounty. A share of produce is usually 7-10 produce items per week during a season. Consumers pay for their share of produce in advance of the growing season when the farm has most of the expense. The farmers do the work and members receive beautiful, fresh produce every week or biweekly, depending upon your choice. We plan to have members pick-up at the Oskaloosa Farmer's Market on Tuesdays late afternoon and evening. Members select their produce from a buffet of choices. Spring, Summer and Fall shares are available. For more info give us a call at 641-230-0014 or 641-230-0025.
