Sunday is coming…
Jesus received 39 stripes because 40 was known to kill a man. They wanted Him alive. They held handfuls of His beard, and hair and pulled it out by the roots. They wanted Him alive. They kicked, punched, and spit on Him for hours. Until there wasn't a single spot on His body not covered in blood. They wanted Him alive.

They shoved a crown of thorns down on His head so harshly it stuck in His skin. They wanted Him alive. After hours of being beaten, mocked, whipped, flogged, and tortured they made Him walk with a cross. A rough piece of wood digging into His fresh wounds. They wanted Him alive.

They wanted Him to feel every ounce of pain they could bring. He had to feel it in order to heal us.
Most of us cannot mentally think of the crucifixion because the cruelty of it isn't normal. It isn't something our minds can comprehend. We celebrate Easter with pastel colors. Truth is, there was absolutely nothing happy about the day Jesus died. It was cruel, bloody, and nasty.

He could have stopped all of it. He could have called every angel in heaven to demolish every person standing and shouting "Crucify Him!" He didn't. He knew in order to have a Sunday you have to have a Friday. He felt everything that day.
He felt how your heart broke wide open when you had to watch your baby die.
He felt how heavy your life was when you were staring down the barrel of a gun wondering if the man was going to shoot you.
He carried the weight of the burden you have felt since your spouse died, or left you, and life just doesn't seem right since.

Jesus leveled every playing field and said ALL of you are worth it.
He knew he had to carry the cross.
He never promised the cross you carry in this life would not be heavy.

His promise is that Sunday is coming.

No matter how heavy Friday is…financially, emotionally, mentally, or physically. Friday is heavy. That cross is weighing you down and you are about to crumble under its weight.
His promise was simply this: He won't make you carry it alone. What kind of king would step down from his throne for this?

Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God did. For you. So…look up, because Sunday is coming.

There were three crosses. One hill. Two guilty men flanking one innocent one - Jesus. Good Friday, 2,000 years ago. At first, both criminals joined the crowd in mocking Jesus (Matthew 27:44). Same contempt. Same darkness. Two men dying men making the same mistake - cursing the only One who could save them.

But then something shifted in one of them.

He watched Jesus absorb agony without rage. He heard Him pray, “Father, forgive them.” He saw a Man respond to cruelty with… mercy. It broke something open in him. Luke 23 records what he said next:

“We are getting what we deserve. We earned this.”

No spin. No self-defense. Just a man finally seeing himself clearly. Then he turned and said what no one else in that crowd was saying: “This man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said the simplest prayer ever recorded:

“Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

No theology degree. No baptism. No track record of good works to point to. Just a desperate, honest reach across the darkness toward the only hope left. Jesus answered immediately:

“Today you will be with Me in paradise.”

Not eventually. Not we’ll see. Not you’ll need to prove it first. Today. This is the heartbeat of the gospel, stripped of everything religious: a man with nothing to offer but faith - and Jesus calling that enough. Full pardon. Full acceptance. Eternity secured in a single moment.

The thief couldn’t be baptized. He couldn’t serve in ministry. He couldn’t make restitution for his crimes or spend years growing in sanctification.

If you think you’ve gone too far, look at this man’s cross. Jesus doesn’t save the deserving. He saves the willing - the ones who stop pretending and simply reach for Him.

As long as you have breath, the offer stands. It’s never too late.

We felt like we were finally getting back on the right track with me being able to be in the garden a little bit more and with Klai helping also! We are praying for an even better year ahead and even more time to work in the garden!

Sweet meat squash - heirloom blue-green squash

The deep yellow flesh is sweet, dry, and fine, similar to a sweet potato. This type of winter squash is said to make some of the best pumpkin pie around!
