Down to Earth Markets has been closely guided by its mission to bring about meaningful change in the way we farm, grow, produce, process, distribute and eat food since Miriam Haas founded the company in 1991. We envision a strong regional food system, built by independent farms and food businesses, that provides everyone with an alternative to industrial food. We believe that seasonal, local food is a vital part of our heritage that ensures the health of our communities and environment.
Down to Earth Markets connects cooks and eaters with regional farms and food producers through community farmers markets. In doing so, we honor a timeless form of commerce: local, community-scale businesses selling neighbor to neighbor.
Our mission is to:
โข Create economic opportunities for local farmers, processors, and consumers to trade with one another for mutual benefit;
โข Celebrate our food culture together to enhance community life; and
โข Cultivate knowledge, awareness, and practices among consumers and producers to care for the environment and build the local food economy.

Down to Earth Markets is celebrating B Corp Month, an annual event that takes place every March. Certified B Corps are companies that demonstrate high standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability. To achieve certification, Down to Earth Markets must undergo a rigorous third-party assessment and verification process every three years. During B Corp Month, we invite you to follow along as we share a post each week illustrating how we are meeting (and hopefully exceeding!) our B Corp commitments by making a positive impact.
